Posting for a friend who isn't on MN, she loves the name but doesn't want people to think the baby is named after Emmanuel Macron - I didn't even make that connection until she said it, so I think it would be fine.

Thoughts on the name and possible connection?

I know a couple of little boys with this name, including a white British boy. I believe Manu is the traditional nickname in Spanish-speaking countries.

Quite religious, which I’m not...but it is a beautiful name. I don’t associate it with Macron particularly. I know a couple of Mannys. One British from a Ghanaian background and one from Puerto Rico. It’s quite common in Christian countries.

My grandpa was Emmanuel (Manny) so it has lovely associations for me. We are Orthodox Jewish background (his parents were pretty devout) My DD wanted to name her DS for him but wasn’t keen on the name so chose Emmet.
