I really like unusual names, I haven't really spoken to anyone about these names yet.
I've always loved the name Juliet and nobody seems to like it.
Going along with the Shakespearean names (Romeo + Juliet) I also like Ophelia (hamlet).
If I remember correctly from year 8 English I'm sure Ophelia was horrible but I still really love the name.
What do people think? X

I like Juliet but not Ophelia

milienhaus · 26/12/2018 12:07

On the Shakespeare theme, how about Beatrice / Miranda / Cordelia / Rosalind? I quite like both of yours though!

Fantababy · 26/12/2018 12:12

Ophelia wasn't horrible. She lost her mind because Hamlet was an arse but that's hardly her fault.

Ricekrispie22 · 26/12/2018 12:15

I like both Juliet and Ophelia.
Similar to Ophelia: Octavia and Aurelia
Also from Shakespeare: Cordelia, Helena, Viola, Cassandra, Adriana, Alexas

champagneduvin · 26/12/2018 12:58

I prefer Juliet more. What about julietta?

AmberMai · 26/12/2018 13:21

@Fantababy
I really can't remember it's been ages since I've read it aha

Pelargonia and Aurelia

ArtisanPopcorn · 26/12/2018 13:27

I really like both.

AmberMai · 26/12/2018 13:46

@ArtisanPopcorn thank you I've been wondering what people think of them for ages. I love how unique but yet old fashioned they are

I have a DD Miranda and a cat Cordelia so they would be my suggested names. How about Hermione, Helena, Viola, Emilia or Rosalind, along the Shakespeare theme.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 26/12/2018 14:04

Oh and love Juliet but not sure about Ophelia, although there was one at DD's school.

Puttheknifedown · 26/12/2018 14:17

It's that Ophelia goes mad and then drowns...

Didyeeaye · 26/12/2018 14:36

I prefer Rosalind to Ophelia although Rosalind and Juilet as a sibling set sounds far too similar to Romeo and Juliet. I also love Aurelia as previously suggested.

SimplyPut · 26/12/2018 14:38

I have a niece called Juliette (often Jules) and a friends little one is called Ophelia but her peers and siblings call her Feels.

Juliette and Cordelia are lovely and unique.

Pieceofpurplesky · 26/12/2018 14:54

If you like unusual names why Juliet as is is quite a 'normal' name (I love it by the way). I don't think Juliet and Ophelia go together as sibling names.
Juliet and Miranda
Juliet and Celia
Juliet and Bianca
Juliet and Alice

E20mom · 26/12/2018 15:06

Ophelia only for a burlesque performer...

Ophelia butt etc

AmberMai · 26/12/2018 16:53

@Pieceofpurplesky
I don't know I just fell in love with the name and you don't get a great number of babies being called Juliet. Also it sounds pretty old fashioned which I also love

@ArtisanPopcorn
Thank you!

Side note I also previously liked Juliet and Jolene as in the song Jolene it talks about how beautiful she is. But I don't know still really like the Shakespearean names and I don't know why

OP posts:
Divgirl2 · 26/12/2018 22:40

Didn't both Juliet and Ophelia kill themselves? I do love the name Ophelia though... If you like Shakespearean names how about Viola or Imogen. I don't think either of them killed themselves Grin

Jolene I don't like so much, it sounds more American trailer trash than tragic heroine.

Ribbonsonabox · 26/12/2018 23:01

I love Juliet and Ophelia. My 4yo son is at school with an Ophelia, I think it's becoming quite popular.
I like the song Jolene but I'm not so keen on the name.
If you like unusual and old fashioned names have you considered Arthurian names as well? Guinevere, Nimueh/Nimue, Isolde/Isuelt, Morgan, Caelia, Evaine, Igraine

bearfood · 26/12/2018 23:03

I love Juliet! My adult dd is named Portia which she is often complimented on.

AmberMai · 29/12/2018 18:07

@bearfood
I love that name, but I bet there was never a key ring with her name on lol x

If I had twin girls I could be very tempted with Juliet and Antonia or Juliet and Josephine, I also like Adaline and Antonia, and in fact any combination of the above. We know a little Ophelia and it gets shortened to Fi. You have great taste in names!

TatianaLarina · 29/12/2018 20:17

Jolene - please don’t take my man.. just because you can.

I think any of the Shakespeare heroines are better than Jolene.

My favs are Imogen, Beatrice, Rosalind. I quite like Ophelia.
