Ernie or Dougie

We are 28 weeks pregnant with a little boy 😍💙 for months we have loved the name Ernest (he'd be known as Ernie for short). We have James in mind as a middle name so he'd be Ernest James.
However I've found myself wandering away from this name now and wondering if I love it as much as I thought I did.
Hubby loves Douglas James (again Dougie for short - we keep getting drawn to names with -ie at the end!)

Just wondering which people prefer, out of interest more than anything?
Other names we like are Sonny, Charlie, Arthur (Artie) ...

Would love opinions, thanks! X

I prefer Douglas/Dougie, as I think it is less old fashioned than Ernest/Ernie. But I suspect that is just as I know younger Douglas/Doug/Dougies.

starkid · 12/12/2018 17:10

Douglas/Dougie James sounds lovely :)

Sophronia · 12/12/2018 17:11

I like both, but prefer Ernest.

elibee · 12/12/2018 17:11

I prefer Dougie/Douglas
Ernest James does flow really nicely but I don't like Ernie at all.

ZebraKid71 · 12/12/2018 17:12

I love them both equally! Sorry to be of no help whatsoever!

MrsLCW · 12/12/2018 17:15

Thanks everyone!
I've always absolutely loved Theodore/Teddy but hubby isn't so keen 🙄

I love Dougie. Sorry but Ernest is just awful.

whatstheplanphil · 12/12/2018 17:20

I think Ernest James is a great name .

tammytoby · 12/12/2018 17:26

Ernest

CarrieErbag · 12/12/2018 17:28

Love Ernie or Ernest.

tammytoby · 12/12/2018 17:54

Ernest is great!

CIT80 · 12/12/2018 17:55

Ernest James makes me think of the jewellers - so I would either think of a new middle name or go with Douglas James

DuploRelatedInjury · 12/12/2018 18:02

I love Ernest/Ernie as it was my DGF name, but we would have used it as a middle name rather than a first as it is very old fashioned and not one that's had a revival to my knowledge. Dougie is sweet but brings to mind Hey Duggee.

tammytoby · 12/12/2018 18:25

Middle names are so so rarely used that I wouldn't worry about the jeweller. Aren't they called Jones not James anyway?

ernjas · 12/12/2018 19:15

Love both equally!!!

MrsLCW · 12/12/2018 21:06

We said the same about the jewellers but it's Ernest Jones not James, and he'd not be known as both names together, just his first name.

I don't particularly mind that it hasn't had a revival, I like that it's unique without being too out there?

I really like ernie

Sandsnake · 12/12/2018 21:13

Douglas by miles!

TheLovelyOtherDinosaur · 12/12/2018 21:16

Dougie is cooler

CIT80 · 12/12/2018 22:16

Yes you are right it’s Ernest Jones ! Then both your names are lovely ! Just see which one suits the little man when he arrives Smile

MrsLCW · 12/12/2018 22:38

@CIT80 I think that's what we're gonna have to do! Watch we'll call him something completely different 😂 God it's high pressure naming an actual human isn't it!!!

Ernie is perfect if he is going to be a milkman!

moredoll · 12/12/2018 22:47

Charlie or Arthur.

Don't like Ernest at all, sorry and Dougie sounds out of time.

CIT80 · 12/12/2018 22:55

It’s a big responsibility 😂

DramaAlpaca · 12/12/2018 22:57

Douglas & Dougie are nice.

Ernest & Ernie are utterly hideous.
