I think it's lovely. Do you know any under 50? What would you think of baby Geoffrey?

I like it, and prefer "Geoffrey" rather than "Jeffrey" as it looks like the right spelling instead of made up to be easier to pronounce.

It is old enough to be cool, but recent enough that people think it is a normal name and know how to spell it.

Yohooo · 09/12/2018 22:27

I think it's a cool name. I like both spellings. It's true that is a nice change from the millions of Alfie's, Harry and Archie's etc etc

midsomermurderess · 09/12/2018 22:35

Astronica, Geoffrey is Anglo-French, Jeffrey is the Anglicised version. Nothing Amercanised about it.

Tightlippedmama · 10/12/2018 00:14

I know of one who must be about 24 now.

BigGlasses · 10/12/2018 13:58

DH is Geoffrey (Geoff). He hates his name. I don't really have any opinion. We didn't use it for any of our kids middle names. The sound is quite modern, but written down it does look very dated. It's better than Godfrey though! Or Joffrey from Game of Thrones!

Enidblyton1 · 10/12/2018 14:04

I know a Geoff who is about 38. I assume he’s a Geoffrey, but is only ever known as Geoff. He’s v cool and sporty, so I’ve never thought of his name being old/unfashionable.
I would go for it!

calpop · 10/12/2018 14:06

No, too soon.

Like Nigel.

No!

MikeUniformMike · 10/12/2018 20:36

I like it too

rootsandbranches · 16/12/2018 17:13

Thanks for all the replies. I was braced for all negative so I'm actually really happy. It's definitely high on the list. It's a family name for both of us and I like that history. Others I like are :

John
Oscar
William
Victor

Geoffrey is much better than the god awful Jeffrey. I can't bear Jeff but love Geoff.

It's from the French word and is a classic name.

17caterpillars1mouse · 18/12/2018 13:10

I really like it and would love to meet a baby Geoffrey. I think Geoff would work well in the teens too. It fits in with the old man chic style of naming that is about but is a nice change from all the Alfie's, Archie's etc

Geoffmd7 · 18/12/2018 13:34

Good afternoon, 35 Year Old Geoffrey here, literally never met another Geoffrey around my age LOL...I thought the name was going to die with me...clearly not!

NeverTrustASmilingCat · 18/12/2018 13:51

I know a 36 year old Geoffrey

AnOtherNomdePlume · 18/12/2018 13:54

I don't like it yet.
How about:

Gregory / Gregor
Raymond / Ray
Gordon
Douglas

AnOtherNomdePlume · 18/12/2018 14:00

Roland
Hugh

Marylou2 · 18/12/2018 14:03

Inexplicably fabulous. I haven’t thought of it as a baby name but definitely due for a comeback 🙂

bookmum08 · 18/12/2018 14:06

One of the twins on Everybody Loves Raymond was called Geoffrey (who would of been born mid 90s). I always thought it seemed an ugly name for that cute blond little boy. His twin was Michael!

foxtiger · 19/12/2018 11:09

I've always liked this name for some reason. The Jeffrey spelling may have been fashionable more recently, but I have a soft spot for the older form. Now that names that used to be considered old-fashioned, like George and Arthur, are so popular, I think Geoffrey's moment might not be far behind!

AnOtherNomdePlume · 19/12/2018 11:13

I like it better today than I did yesterday!

It's coming back I tell you!

Cazastrophe · 20/12/2018 00:31

No, I’m this day and age, it seems a bit cruel!
And too close to Joffrey if you’re a GOT watcher! Keep it as a middle name!

RockingAroundTheChristmasTree1 · 20/12/2018 00:48

Oh no..all Geoffrey's I know are short, dumpy, glasses, wearing a shirt with the buttons on the verge of popping off, and trying to hide their bald spot with a comb over 🤔

Headstand · 20/12/2018 19:03

I am so grateful for this thread! DH is trying to persuade me on Geoffrey after his adored grandfather. I feel it's on the cusp of acceptable old-fashioned. Not sure I'm brave enough to go for it!

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 20/12/2018 21:28

It could be much worse you know, Headstand. He could be suggesting Trevor or Gordon. They make Geoffrey look positively hip. Grin

Didyeeaye · 21/12/2018 19:29

Geoffrey makes me think of the horrible character in game of thrones. Sorry!

user14869556378 · 22/12/2018 12:43

I know a baby Geoffrey and he's adorable!
