Your favourite 'traditional' names

So I've recently found out we are expecting baby #3, hooray !
I know it's way too early to think about names but I can't help myself . We have two girls already , their names are what I'd consider traditional, but not old like Catherine, Elizabeth etc. definitely not "yoonique" or whatever people say on here lol.

For example along the lines of Rebecca, Lucy, Emily , Zoe, Zac, Evan, Jacob etc. Boys names are a struggle ! Ive never found one I loved .

So what are your favourite names for either sex ? :)

The names you mention were quite popular in the 80s/90s - would the 1984 top 100 help?

Of that kind of vintage, I like:
Matthew
Luke
Kate
Chloe
Claire

And congratulations!

Jessica and Lucy for a girl
Jonathan and William for a boy

HalfBloodPrincess · 16/11/2018 16:33

I think your name style is more 70s/80s than what I’d call ‘traditional’.

Emma
Rebecca
Rachael
Samantha
Clara

Steven
Lewis
Jonathan
Daniel
Antony/Tony

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 16/11/2018 16:33

James - it’s my favourite name

CloserIAm2Fine · 16/11/2018 19:49

Although Rebecca and Emily were very popular in the 80s and 90s they are still very classic names and I don’t think they’re dated in the same way as Hayley and Charlene for example

Sarah
Emma
Anna
Jessica
Hannah
Rachel
Chloe
Abigail
Sophie
Deborah

Matthew
Jacob
Daniel
David
James
Joseph
Luke

Hmm I don't know how I'd class my name's then . A lot of the suggestions of 80s/90s names are not my thing, although some of them I do like, but more the ones that are popular again now ! Like Emma, Abigail, Sophie, I'd never have a Samantha/Rachel/Jennifer/Stephanie. All names of my friends to be fair so they don't feel like little girls names to me lol

Boys names are really hard . If my first had been a boy she'd have been Ethan but I've completely gone off that now. I do quite like Elliot and Evan

Oh and Adam. I think that's sweet. I tend to like shorter names for boys , like Sam, Been, Josh, Tom

I liked Edward a lot. It's a nice name, shortens to Ed, Ned, Ted, Teddy etc. Simon is good and come to think of it, you don't seem to get many boys called that anymore.

For girls Anna is nice

Katherine
(All girls, obviously!)

AlliKaneErikson · 17/11/2018 03:14

PS I know you said not Catherine but I see it as a different name with a K (I’m a bit odd, maybe?!!)

OneTwistedAngel · 17/11/2018 13:28

Girl; Alice, Rhian or Maisie
Boy; Owen, Lewis or Elijah

stellarfox · 18/11/2018 20:36

I’d say Elizabeth and Catherine are more traditional timeless names than the one you mention but nothing wrong with those names either. Some suggestions:

Poppy
Katie
Olivia
Faye
Imogen
Freya
Lily
Sarah
Louisa
Rosie
Charlotte

stellarfox · 18/11/2018 20:36

Hannah and Francesca too

DRE56322 · 18/11/2018 21:50

I'd not call Catherine/Elizabeth old- they are timeless.

However, if I've got your "style" right I like:

Girls
Sophie
Helen
Amy
Hannah
Charlotte

Boys
Daniel
Christopher
James
Luke
Adam
William
