Georgie - which long name?

Nacmonalds · 12/11/2018 14:44

We’ve decided on Georgie for dd2 and are now trying to decide which long name to use on the birth certificate (please no lectures about not giving your child a name you’re not going to call them by, it’s what we want to do and what we’ve decided on).

I really dislike Georgina - I just hate the ‘Gina’ part of it.

So that leaves us with Georgia and Georgiana. We both instinctively prefer Georgiana, but we’re wondering if others would consider it a little pretentious?

If it’s relevant, our dd1 is called Victoria, nn Vika (the Russian shortening as dh is half Russian and we both hate Vicky and Torie!)

I love Georgiana

TheRenegadeMaster · 12/11/2018 14:45

Georgiana is lovely and so different.

Joinourclub · 12/11/2018 14:48

Georgiana matches well with Victoria.

Though you will definitely have a Vicky and George in ten years time!

Sophronia · 12/11/2018 16:02

Georgiana

PinkAvocado · 12/11/2018 16:03

I know a couple of Georgianas and think it’s a lovely name.

Greensleeves · 12/11/2018 16:05

How do you pronounce Georgiana?

Always wondered.

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 12/11/2018 16:06

Georgiana is wonderful.

Just say when you announce the birth this is gerogiana who'll be known as Georgie.

SpottingTheZebras · 12/11/2018 16:08

Georgiana is a lovely name and I also much prefer the nn Vika for Victoria than the normal one used.

SuburbanRhonda · 12/11/2018 16:08

What made you choose Georgie, if you don’t mind me asking?

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 12/11/2018 16:09

I think Georgie is not really a shortening of Georgia, so I’d go with Georgiana.

Ploppymoodypants · 12/11/2018 16:09

Georgiana is lovely.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 12/11/2018 16:12

Have you considered Georgette? I've always thought it was a beautiful, timeless name.

Georgiana is just as beautiful & timeless too though.

TillyTheTiger · 12/11/2018 16:13

Georgiana is lovely

Nacmonalds · 12/11/2018 16:24

How do you pronounce Georgiana?

We would be pronouncing it Georgie-arna with the biggest stress on the ‘ar’.

Georgiana - Georgie. Very nice.

(Though she might choose later to be a George, a Gigi, a Giana, or an Ana.)

TheWiseWomansFear · 12/11/2018 17:13

If she's called Georgia she won't really go by Georgie I don't think

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 12/11/2018 18:08

I know two Georgies who are both actually Georgia!
I much prefer Georgia to Georgiana, which I do think sounds a little pretentious

Vi0l3t · 12/11/2018 18:18

I prefer Georgia, Georgiana is quite fussy

Icklepup · 12/11/2018 18:23

Georgiana

Romanmonkey · 12/11/2018 18:26

I like both! Sorry not helpful. Smile Probably prefer Georgia.

Beamur · 12/11/2018 18:27

I know a Georgiana. Lovely name.

Blahdeblah123 · 12/11/2018 18:31

Why do you need to christen her anything other than Georgie? Its a beautiful name on its own. I have one and i wouldnt go for, and didnt go, for any other name on her birth certificate.
Fabulous name.

Blahdeblah123 · 12/11/2018 18:33

Sorry, just re read your post. Dont mean to offend, but genuinely dont understand why the name on the BC cant be Georgie.

ReginaPhalange89 · 12/11/2018 18:53

I prefer Georgia. I didn't know Georgiana was pronounced with an 'ar' sound , really dislike that sorry

whiteroseredrose · 12/11/2018 19:41
