Not pregnant just musing with DP and had some questions and stuff. Strap yourself in, it's a long one. You don't have to answer everything just pick and choose.

- DD is Violet -

Violet & Charlie - too Willy Wonka?
Violet & Elizabeth - too Just William?

Robin - Girl or Boy name?
River - Girl or Boy name?
Hunter - Girl or Boy name?
Rory - Girl or Boy name?

Fable - Is it crazy to like this as a name? Nn Fay?

Fabia/Faebia - wdyt?

River or Reeva?

Elizabeth or Elisabeth?

Isla, Iona or Innes?

Malachi or Maddox?

Naomi or Natasha?

Naomi or Noemi?

Any names like Aurora? I feel like it's too popular now but I love that its a strong name of a goddess (I also love the name Dawn) and a beautiful natural event.

Names like Eden? I love Eden but know someone with the name and again it seems to be rising in popularity.

Boys names like Charlie? Charlie is the only name DP offered for a boy as he (rightly) guessed we'd have a girl. He likes "classically popular" names like Charlie, Oliver, Henry/Harry, George etc. So sort of strong names, but still soft enough to suit kids AND adults.

On yer marks, get set, GO!

Violet & Charlie - too Willy Wonka? A lot of people seem to think of the character on Violet threads so yes, probably too much. I think it’s because they are from the same book - Violet & James would be fine, IMO (James & the giant peach)

Violet & Elizabeth - too Just William? I don’t know the reference but I have seen a lot of comments on here and it doesn’t seem the best to be associated with so I’ll go with yes on that one too.

Robin - Girl or Boy name? Boy. I think you can get away with it on a girl though.
River - Girl or Boy name? Boy
Hunter - Girl or Boy name? 100% boy
Rory - Girl or Boy name? Boy

Fable - Is it crazy to like this as a name? Nn Fay? Yeah, it would be a guilty pleasure to be never used for me.

Fabia/Faebia - wdyt? NAF. It honesty made me think of labia.

River or Reeva? Reeva although I’m NAF of either.

Elizabeth or Elisabeth? Elizabeth purely because I love Eliza.

Isla, Iona or Innes? I like them all (Ines with one n though) - Iona is probably my favourite.

Malachi or Maddox? Malachi.

Naomi or Natasha? Naomi.

Naomi or Noemi? Naomi.

Any names like Aurora? I feel like it's too popular now but I love that its a strong name of a goddess (I also love the name Dawn) and a beautiful natural event.

I don’t think Aurora is too popular and to me there’s not another name like it but I am very biased as it’s my eldest’s name - Violet is also my youngest’s name, funnily enough. Celeste? Estelle? Selena? Esther? Athena?

Names like Eden? I love Eden but know someone with the name and again it seems to be rising in popularity. Edith? Edie?

Boys names like Charlie? Charlie is the only name DP offered for a boy as he (rightly) guessed we'd have a girl. He likes "classically popular" names like Charlie, Oliver, Henry/Harry, George etc. So sort of strong names, but still soft enough to suit kids AND adults.
Theo, Theodore. Archie, Luca, Lucas. Issac, Freddie, Samuel, James, Xander, Alexander, Quinn, Joel, Jude, Ryan, Alfie, Nathan, Ezra, Ethan, Caleb, Oscar, Zachary, Nathaniel

Dougie is nice but a bit too nickname-y for me. Douglas, NN Doug?

Goostacean · 07/11/2018 01:11

I’m going to stick to the easy ones:

Violet & Charlie - too Willy Wonka? Yes, too Willy Wonka.
Violet & Elizabeth - too Just William? Not sure, have heard others say so on other threads but I don’t remember the books.

Robin - Girl or Boy name? Boy, Robyn for a girl
River - Girl or Boy name? Unclear. Don’t like it.
Hunter - Girl or Boy name? Boy.
Rory - Girl or Boy name? Boy! Gosh. Except wasn’t one of the Gilmore Girls Rory? Always thought that was weird.

Fable - Is it crazy to like this as a name? Nn Fay? It’s a bit crazy, but I quite like it, actually...!

Fabia/Faebia - wdyt? No. Faebia is going to lead to a lifetime of correcting people. And Fabia sounds like Labia.

River or Reeva? Neither, personally. River is a bit too out-there and I associate Reeva with Oscar Pistorius as I’d never heard the name before.

Elizabeth or Elisabeth? Both lovely. Probably Elizabeth though or she’ll be “Elisabeth with an s”.

Isla, Iona or Innes? Innes! Or Ines! Love it.

Malachi or Maddox? Malachi

Naomi or Natasha? Natasha

Naomi or Noemi? Naomi

HeronLanyon · 07/11/2018 01:29

Isla, Iona or Innes? IONA

Robin - Girl or Boy name? Boy
River - Girl or Boy name? Boy

Violet & Charlie - too Willy Wonka? Yes
Violet & Elizabeth - too Just William? Yes

Robin - Girl or Boy name? Boy
River - Girl or Boy name? Boy
Hunter - Girl or Boy name? Boy
Rory - Girl or Boy name? Boy

Fable - Is it crazy to like this as a name? Nn Fay? Awful. Too like feeble.

Naomi or Natasha? Naomi

Naomi or Noemi? Naomi unless you are French

Any names like Aurora? I feel like it's too popular now but I love that its a strong name of a goddess (I also love the name Dawn) and a beautiful natural event.
Aurora for me isnt strong, it's a Disney Princess name. It also sounds dreadful in lots of accents. Alba is dawn in Italian. Lunaa and Serena have natural meanings. Ginevra is Guinevere so a mythological connection, also Maia, Freya, and Gaia.

Boys names like Charlie? Jack, Albert /Bertiet, Joe, Edward, Harry, Henry, freddie/ Frederick/Alfred.

MoMoandJoJo · 07/11/2018 06:02

Violet & Charlie - too Willy Wonka? No, it's fine
Violet & Elizabeth - too Just William? Absolutely fine

Robin - Girl or Boy name? Robin with an i is the masculine form.

River - Girl or Boy name? I'd say boy - River Phoenix. Although passable for a girl.
Hunter - Girl or Boy name? Definite boy.
Rory - Girl or Boy name? Definite boy.

Fable - Is it crazy to like this as a name? Nn Fay? Crazy-ish and not particularly nice

Fabia/Faebia - wdyt? It's a no from me

River or Reeva? River for boy, Reeva for girl - also different pronunciation.

Elizabeth or Elisabeth? Z - classic

Isla, Iona or Innes? Not keen on any. Isla at a push.

Malachi or Maddox? Personally neither

Naomi or Natasha? Naomi

Naomi or Noemi? Naomi

Any names like Aurora? I feel like it's too popular now but I love that its a strong name of a goddess (I also love the name Dawn) and a beautiful natural event. - I've never met an Aurora - MN 'popular' and real name popular are not the same.

Names like Eden? I love Eden but know someone with the name and again it seems to be rising in popularity. - It's nice. Don't know/haven't met any and spend the majority of my time at baby/toddler groups.

- Yes like these.
