Is Herbert awful?

I love the nickname Herbie but don’t feel as if it’s ‘proper’ enough as a full name. Is Herbert awful and too old man-ish. Are there any other names that can result in the nn herbie?

I mean I hated Herbert, I still quite like Herbie but not enough to justify Herbert

Is Herbert pronounced Her-Bert or is the pronounceation He-Bert a totally different name?

MyMumDimensionJumps · 07/11/2018 20:02

Isn't the pervy old man in Family Guy called Herbert?

CBA2RTFT · 07/11/2018 22:43

I like it!

Lindah1 · 07/11/2018 22:49

Isaac is lovely

pipilangstrumpf · 08/11/2018 08:08

I'm not keen on Herbert, sorry.

Quentin and Isaac are much nicer!

MonkeyToucher · 08/11/2018 10:07

I actually quite like it! I know a Herbert who was named for his Grandad and he's referred to as Bertie which I think is lovely.

I remember that other thread though - lots of people also pointed out that "a herbert" is slang for an idiot (ie "what a stupid herbert"), but that might be a generational thing.

Sorry I am not keen on any of your choices, but Herbert is dire haha
