Joseph is a really chavvy name here, you only have to walk through the city in the day time to hear it screeched a million times over at kids running amok. Not a fan at all.

mostdays · 01/11/2018 13:28

Joseph by a country mile.

JheronimusBosch · 01/11/2018 13:56

I find Elliott quite a weak name. And very now.

Whereas Joseph is classic and strong.

So definitely Joseph, for me!

starkid · 01/11/2018 14:23

Elliot :) They're both fine though

Icklepup · 01/11/2018 15:40

Elliot

Another vote for Elliot

Picknickers · 01/11/2018 23:22

Joseph. Lovely name and nice shortening. Eliot sounds a bit feeble and will be shortened to Ellie.

MonkeyToucher · 02/11/2018 13:33

I think it’s very telling that the first response here was to query the spelling - I personally think it’s sort of cruel to give a child any name that has alternative spellings. You are lumbering them with having to spell it/correct it for the rest of their lives!

Joseph is lovely!

SPR1107 · 02/11/2018 13:36

Joseph definitely. For many reasons, but mainly Joe is much nicer than El.. which is likely to happen at school

Rockandrolling · 02/11/2018 13:41

To the pp who said the name Joseph is chavvy. Are you being serious? Hmm

Joseph is a lovely name and is in no way 'chavvvy'!
Not keen on Elliot.

Getoffthetableplease · 02/11/2018 19:16

Haha I'm sure the woman I saw last week with her belly hanging out, fag in hand, screaming at her 4 year old 'JJ, Joseph Jack, J fucking J' who was chucking his bottle of coke at a pigeon whilst chewing his dummy would agree with you that it's a lovely name, Rockandrolling. Definitely not the first time I've heard it hollered across the town centre/supermarket.

MsAnnThropic · 02/11/2018 19:25

Elliot

TheFairyCaravan · 02/11/2018 19:35

Elliot

costacoffeecup · 02/11/2018 19:38

I don't think Joseph is chavvy at all! I like Elliot (t) and I only know of one in all my friendship/nursery/work colleague circle. I would probably go for Elliot out of the two.

Polkasq · 02/11/2018 21:11

Better tell Jesus his stepfather had a chav name!

Rockandrolling · 03/11/2018 15:58

Getoffthetableplease

Still don't believe you I'm afraid

PotteringAlong · 03/11/2018 16:04

Joseph

Getoffthetableplease · 03/11/2018 18:38

Rockandrolling you don't have to. Op asked for a an opinion on the names and I said I don't like Joseph as I hear it screeched a lot in my city. It's been in the top 50 UK boys names enough for it to be fairly commonly heard, you know Hmm

DramaAlpaca · 03/11/2018 18:40

Joseph

cptartapp · 03/11/2018 18:45

Joseph by a mile. Elliot seems effeminate to my ears.

PantTwizzler · 03/11/2018 23:43

Love Joseph, although only pronounced with Z in the middle (I hate Jossseph).

Elliott is a surname to me.

Didyeeaye · 06/11/2018 15:15

I prefer Joseph. Think Elliot is a bit wet tbh

kenandbarbie · 06/11/2018 15:30

Joseph

I don't think it's 'chavvy' at all, quite the opposite. Although as it's fairly popular and classic there are bound to be some 'chavvy' people who are called it, as with any popular name.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/11/2018 15:36

I adore Elliot but There is not much opportunity for nns. Should he want to use one. El and certainly Elli are far to feminine. I'm not overly keen on Joseph although Joe is a good strong manly name.
If you guarantee it won't be shortened then Elliot hands down. If not I'd go with Joseph.
You could use both names I guess
Elliot Joseph
Joseph Elliot

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/11/2018 15:38

I suppose any name can sound chavvy if its screeched loud enough all over the supermarket.
