Witchy names

Trying a different way of coming up with some girls names - what ‘witchy’ names can you think of? Traditional or ‘out there’. I can only think of ‘Meg’ (Meg and Mog) and the obligatory Harry Potter references... 😂

I remember the palindrome witch name children’s book!

I wanted to call my twins Tiffany and Esmerelda after discworld witches. Vetoed

PantTwizzler · 28/10/2018 22:24

Why do you want a witchy name? Genuine question.

Belladonna, Nora, Nancy, Olympia, Mabel and Ethel all from the book 'Which Witch'.
Mildred, Maud, Enid, Ethel and Sybil from The Worst Witch.
Morgan, Raven, Morigan, Morgase and Nimue from The Mists of Avalon.
Claire, Sydney, Bay and Evanelle from Garden Spells.

hellsbells552 · 29/10/2018 07:18

@PantTwizzler - I like old names and I’ve always been into supernatural stuff. Also think of witches as strong and...unusual 😁

Name-wise I would totally consider Rhiannon (even though no Welsh in the family, we used to go there every year when I was a child), Willow, Sybil, Evanora, Hazel, Stella, Morgana... and if I was braver, Lucretia!!

Morrigan... Irish Goddess, patron of Witches

SeeTwoTo · 29/10/2018 13:41

Please have Lucretia... we toyed with it for DD but had to decide against it. She’d have been a brilliant Lucretia.

Grotbags*

DISCLAIMER: I am in no way suggesting you should name a DC Grotbags. However, it makes a good nickname when they're keeping you awake with their grumbling at 3am.

newrubylane · 29/10/2018 19:20

There's Prue, Phoebe, Piper and Paige from charmed. Although they don't sound that witchy to me.

There was a great thread on a related topic some time ago which might be of interest - "Dark and delicious girls' names". Might be worth a search?

WhereIsBlueRabbit · 29/10/2018 20:02

Not that you'll be short of ideas now
