Isobel (Spanish spelling) or Isabelle (French spelling). Never Isabel.
What @golondrina said.
I think if you are going to use a word such as never you should get the facts right

SoftSheen · 27/10/2018 20:34

Isabel is the Spanish or English spelling.
Isobel is the Scottish spelling.
Isabelle is the French spelling.

All three are 'correct', though personally I prefer Isabel.

DH and I had an argument about this when dd was 1 hour old! It's her middle name and DH was convinced it should be Isabel and I was firmly in the Isobel camp.

I won. I'd just given birth!

SoftSheen · 27/10/2018 20:37

schooltripwoes The variant Isabel has been used in both Spain and England for hundreds of years...

MajorArcana · 27/10/2018 20:38

I prefer isabel or isobel.
Way toooo many extra letters in isabelle. Makes it frilly.

MyDcAreMarvel · 27/10/2018 20:44

necessary on a bike?

NoughtDegreesNought · 27/10/2018 20:47

I have an Isabel, but Isobel fine with me too - I chose the former because we live in continental Europe and less chance of it being misspelt that way here.

Definitely Isabel in Spanish, it's my friend's middle name and her mother is from Argentina.

PlinkPlink · 27/10/2018 20:47

Isobel is the Cornish version. Love that one.

Pixel99 · 27/10/2018 20:56

Isobel

Chickenwings85 · 27/10/2018 23:59

I have an Isabelle. I chose to have it spelt that way because for me personally I feel like it's the traditional way of spelling it, whether that's correct or not I dont know..? But I just love the name and the spelling.

Isobel. Such a beautiful name.

pipilangstrumpf · 28/10/2018 19:21

Isabelle is pronounced differently than Isabel, the emphasis is on the belle.

I've never heard the pronunciation Isobel. I prefer Isabel.

SuperstarDJ · 28/10/2018 19:47

Regardless of origin, I prefer Isobel.

schooltripwoes · 29/10/2018 06:06

Apologies- I was misinformed . SIL who is Spanish (and lives in Spain) has an Isobel and said that that's the normal spelling and would never see it any other way where they live. Maybe it's a regional thing ?

adviceonthepox · 29/10/2018 06:23

Isabelle is the prettiest spelling the others don't look quite right to me.

golondrina · 29/10/2018 08:33

I've never ever heard of a Spanish Isobel. Maybe she just liked that spelling, but it's absolutely not how anyone would spell it in Spain. And if you google "Isobel nombre de niña" you just get loads of references to it being the Scottish spelling of Isabel. Where does your SIL live? I'm really intrigued a Spaniard living in Spain would use that spelling and say it's normal.
Not being arsey or anything, just intrigued.

starkid · 29/10/2018 12:51

Isobel! :)

JellyTeapot · 29/10/2018 13:42

Isobel (I have one ❤️)

Justtheoneplease · 29/10/2018 13:45

Isabelle as it's beautiful just like my gorgeous daughter. She's an Issy not Izzy btw 😉😉😀
