Not pregnant, just looking out of interest.
I've seen a spike in popularity in the name Hermione, and as a massive HP fan I think it's ace!
So out of curiosity, which of the other heavily associated HP names would you deem usable (if any😂) and which ones would you say are completely unusable??

Girls
Fleur
Lavender
Bellatrix
Minerva
Ginny

Boys
Sirius
Severus
Remus
Ludo
Albus
Rubeus
Draco

I didn't include Luna, Percy, Charlie etc etc because they're commonly used now anyway - but if there's any I've missed that you'd think were usable!

Gilderoy?
Cornelius?
Marvolo?
Horace?
Lucius?

Dolores?

Nymphadora??

SmilingButGhoulless · 25/10/2018 19:55

I think the girls’ names are far more usable than the boys’ - would use any of them other than Bellatrix (and absolutely love Minerva). I’d also add Petunia if you like flower names.

In terms of the boys’ names, I think Remus, Ludo and Albus are all possible. I’d add Lucius, Cornelius, Cedric and Alastor as well.

hpbabyname · 25/10/2018 20:10

@SmilingButGhoulless I agree Minerva is lovely!!

I find the spike in Hermione really fascinating! I’ve always loved the name but have had to discount it purely because of HP connotations!

FishCanFly · 26/10/2018 14:15

Harry? Ron? those are completely safe if your kid doesn't want any HP association later on Grin

Andtheresaw · 26/10/2018 14:21

Bill, Charlie, George, Fred, Ginny, Molly, Arthur and possibly Percy are good if you want to make a nod to HP without anyone knowing.

Subla2401 · 26/10/2018 15:36

Amos
Phineas
Phoenix
Cedric
Dudley
Neville
Cormac
Ernie
Kingsley
Wilkie
Corban
Blaise

Wanted to name my son Lucius but both DH, FIL, DM, etc. banned me from using any obvious HP names Grin so I went for discrete nod and chose Charlie

I was at the Gp surgery a few weeks ago and a young lady had two children with her called Teddy and Albus

So guessed she must be a fan Grin

CountFosco · 26/10/2018 15:42

Tom Marvolo Riddle is probably the name to avoid Grin. Anything else is fine.

For example Thorfinn is the name of a deatheater which would put some people off but there's a few in Shetland and Orkneyof all ages.

hpbabyname · 26/10/2018 15:45

@misspumpkinhead my DP vetoed Severus when I was expecting! 😂

I have twins and wish I'd added Fred and George as extra middle names. Especially as both names are in the family so no one could possibly have objected!

Luna's twins are Lorcan and Lysander which are pretty awesome names. But my 14 yo's refuse to let me change their names. Boring.

I loved Hermione way before HP, but never had a girl. I don't know any small Hermiones though.

Biscuitsneeded · 26/10/2018 15:51

My DS is called Bill and if he'd been a girl he'd have been Hermione - in both cases just because we just liked the names. The HP connection only struck us afterwards (even though we are both fans).

ApolloandDaphne · 26/10/2018 15:56

Luna seems to be very popular at the moment.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 26/10/2018 15:58

I have a Harry, it's Potter related, I'm not even embarrassed 😀

Andtheresaw · 26/10/2018 20:38

Ginny Weasley's name was actually Ginevra. Gorgeous!

trinitybleu · 26/10/2018 20:44

My baby days are well over so we have pets with HP names... 3 of which are on the OPs list

How about Andromeda? Tonks??

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 26/10/2018 21:33

My daughter is Lily - a nod to HP's heritage.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 26/10/2018 21:36

I think Albus is absolutely fabulous but I don’t think I’d be brave enough to actually use it on a child.

Whompthatwillow · 26/10/2018 21:49

Hedwig and Lysander were on my list. I also loved Andromeda but it was vetoed.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 26/10/2018 21:52

I’d use:

Bellatrix
Astoria
Alecto
Romilda
Nagini

Draco
Lucius
Sirius
Newt
Marvolo

RedDwarves · 27/10/2018 02:33

I love Lavender. I'd use that if it wasn't certain that they'd get "Lav" for short.

Also, Lavender was such a wet sock of a character.
