Thoughts on my short-ish boys list

To, can I have some opinions on my boys list - really struggling with boys names as I like some but struggle to love any. Also any comments on how many you know would be helpful (DD was 1 of 10 names her name the year she was born so has quite a rare name - not sure if a more popular name would fit?)

The list (in no particular order)

Benedict - would be fine with others calling him Ben but probably wouldn't myself

Isaac

Rufus - may shorten to Roo whilst a baby / toddler

Ezra

Emrys

Nathaniel - but not a huge fan of Nate though it could grow on me

Samson - would probably call him Sammy

Benedict - I don't like this one sorry, and I don't know of any.

Isaac - really like this, again don't know any personally

Rufus - dog's name. Sorry. Don't like it for a child

Ezra - I do like this but it's apparently been in the top 10 (although I've only met one!)

Emrys - not sure how this is pronounced?

Nathaniel - not keen, I like Daniel and Nathan but not Nathaniel for some reason ! And really don't like Nate

Samson - I actually quite like this, never really seen it pop up on any name lists before. But I'm liking it !

EvieV28 · 16/10/2018 15:35

Benedict and Ezra are my favourites from your list.

JosellaPlayton · 16/10/2018 15:37

Benedict - love this, Ben is a great name, I know 2 under 5
Issac - really like this, never met one
Rufus - dog’s name
Ezra - not massively keen, never met one
Emrys - is it Welsh? It sounds extremely feminine to me, like a mash-up of Emma and Carys
Nathaniel - this is ok, I know quite a few but they’re all French
Samson - love this one too, DD has a Sammy short for Samson in her class at daycare but we’re in the US

Icklepup · 16/10/2018 15:37

Love Rufus

RiverTam · 16/10/2018 15:40

Ezra
Isaac

Wherearemycarkeys · 16/10/2018 15:43

I adore the name Rufus!!

EthelHallowsBroomstick · 16/10/2018 15:43

Like them all except Emrys as I don't know how to pronounce it (but if I did I might like it). I know Rufus is a bit of a dog's name but i like it anyway.

RavenWings · 16/10/2018 15:51

Benedict - think it would turn into Ben and then he's one of the hordes of Bens running about. If rarity is something you want I'd avoid.

Isaac - I like it, but could see it rising in popularity.

Rufus - no

Ezra - think this will get really popular

Emrys - new name to me but having looked it up, I really like it.

Nathaniel - love this but agree that he'd get Nate.

Samson - nah, not a fan

OutPinked · 16/10/2018 17:06

Benedict - much prefer this to Benjamin, always been a fan of it but not a fan of Ben and it would almost definitely become that.

Isaac - I like it but it is common

Rufus- personally think it’s cute but I know many people associate it with dogs

Ezra - one of my favourite names

Emrys- never met one, quite like it

Nathaniel - also not a huge fan

Samson - not keen, I’ve only ever met dogs called this

Sunflower321 · 16/10/2018 17:57

Emrys and Rufus are lovely and not overused.

Ben is indeed a little dull through overuse imo

matley · 16/10/2018 19:56

Benedict - not keen at all.
Isaac - it's nice but very popular IMO.
Rufus - not my taste but quite cute.
Ezra - love but getting very popular.
Emrys - absolutely love this.
Nathaniel - nice.
Samson - not keen at all.

daisypond · 16/10/2018 20:02

Samson is pretty bad - what if he's small and not strong? It's a bit of an image to live up to. I don't like Ezra either, but the others are all OK. Rufus is my favourite out of your boys' names.

BlueChampagne · 17/10/2018 13:24

Love Emrys (and Idris if this helps).

DC2018 · 17/10/2018 15:38

I love them all!
My favourite is probably Emrys followed by Nathaniel and Benedict x

Picknickers · 17/10/2018 23:55

What a fab list! My favourite on MN for a long time.
Benedict - Lovely but would use Ned as shortening.
Isaac - Lovely but popular.
Rufus - Fab.Was on our list but had a dd
Ezra - love but getting very popular.
Emrys - LOVE! Knew a gorgeous cheeky old chap called Emrys
Nathaniel - OK but not my favourite.
Samson - Least favourite. Makes me think of Emmerdale (yes I'm a pleb)

BikeRunSki · 18/10/2018 00:12

Benedict - don’t like it. Know one adult and 1 preschool age child with this name.

Isaac - quite popular. Know about 5 amongst my dc’s peers (under 10).

Rufus, Ezra, Samson - like these, don’t know any

Nathaniel - love it and all its derivations, know 3, who are 9/10.

Emrys - love it, know 1, my nephew in his 20s.

Surf4life · 18/10/2018 02:59

The list (in no particular order)

Benedict - not keen, eggs....

Isaac - alright, does not exactly wow me though

Rufus - love but really dislike Roo

Ezra - really not keen

Emrys - seems quite cool (never herald of it myself mind)

Nathaniel - probably my favourite, good solid name, easy to pronounce / spell, not that common

Samson - love this too

Topseyt · 18/10/2018 03:09

Isaac and Nathaniel for me.
