Yay? Nay?

Do you know any?

(I have another thread going, but just wanted to see if anyone had any opinions on this name in particular as it’s a new addition to our list).

Love it. Been reading the books to DD recently.

Wherearemycarkeys · 15/10/2018 06:35

Amazing name with an amazing meaning (protector/wise defender). I think it's cute, cool and tough at the same time. I imagine a little Ramona to be fiesty, intelligent, and a bit of a hipster!

LeeMiller · 15/10/2018 07:04

As I said it I head remoaner /remIner, sorry. My next thought was the character from the kids' books.

Sohardtochooseausername · 15/10/2018 07:08

I know 2 small Ramonas - one is 6 and the other is 3. They are both amazing wee human beings. It’s a really good name that stands out.

HeronLanyon · 15/10/2018 07:11

Another here who thinks Ramona stinger ! (RHONY). Given that I wouldn’t. Although by the time it would matter for your daughter it probably will be forgotten ? Have never known one though . . .

overmydeadbody · 15/10/2018 07:14

I love it

GreenandBlueButterfly · 15/10/2018 07:16

Providing she never goes to live in Spain.... Unfortunately that name was spoiled by a very popular but extremely horrible tacky song about 30 years ago, which is still in people's minds. The lyrics went "Ramona is the fatest of all the girls in my village..."

INeedNewShoes · 15/10/2018 07:29

If you happened to have a child that isn't of a sunny, lively disposition I think having a name that sounds like 'moaner' would be asking for trouble.

Eleanor90 · 15/10/2018 07:39

I really like it and it was on our list but everyone I mentioned it to said the “moan/moaner” bit was just too prominent. I can’t unhear it now!

TheDowagerCuntess · 15/10/2018 07:42

It wouldn't make my list, but I think it's a cool name, a little bit off the beaten track while being a known entity.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 15/10/2018 07:48

I quite like it. Used to love the books!

Ramona
RedDwarves · 15/10/2018 09:31

Ramona is bloody cool.

But I would be concerned about it sounding too like "Remoaner". I don't know how widely used this is IRL though, as I'm not in the UK.

Sophronia · 15/10/2018 09:37

Love it

GloriousMystery · 15/10/2018 09:39

I know one, who is three. Verycool hipster mother. Gorgeous little girl.

Rainbowdrop8 · 15/10/2018 09:58

My DD is called Ramona, we don’t shorten it and no one else ever has either! So no ‘moaner’ type issues here.

She definitely is feisty and knows her own mind! I’ve never had a negative reaction to her name (to my face anyway).

So OP if you love it then go for it

Oysterbabe · 15/10/2018 10:09

I really like it. It reminds me of a TV programme I enjoyed as a child. DH was a hard no though Hmm

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 15/10/2018 10:11

It's a nice name but I just think of the lady from Real Housewives of New York

HeronLanyon · 15/10/2018 10:17

She ain’t no lady !!! Shock

Eatmycheese · 15/10/2018 10:33

Great name.
Was On our list too.

Glumglowworm · 15/10/2018 18:19

Love it! I don’t know any. I only think of the children’s book character who I remember as being fun and feisty

The Doctor Who companion was Romana (romanadeveratnalunda or something in full! Not sure of the spelling without googling)

GRW · 15/10/2018 19:46

It reminds me of Ramona Marquez who played Karen in the sitcom Outnumbered. It's unusual and I like it.
