Shadow
Luca is NOT a unisex name

Sunflower321 · 08/10/2018 10:39

The song any name is Luca by Suzanne Vega might be the reason that people assume it's a girls name?

Sunflower321 · 08/10/2018 10:39

Sorry My name

I know 2 girls called Luca, one is 21, the other is 14, so I presume that makes it unisex.

osa20 · 08/10/2018 14:12

I also know a Lucah (female).

anatol · 08/10/2018 16:57

If someone called their girl Bruce it wouldn't make the name unisex. Luca is an Italian boy's name and a very masculine one at that.

Sunflower321 · 08/10/2018 17:15

If someone called their girl Bruce it wouldn't make the name unisex.

Actually if enough people do, it will do so. Names evolve and many boys names have become unisex.

Sunflower You're absolutely right, names evolve and names that were previously not unisex eventually become unisex sometimes but the difference here is that it is not evolving in it's country of origin, where people understand the history and the meaning of the name. Luca is an Italian name. Any girls outside of Italy who are named Luca will have a hard time if they ever fancy going to Italy, where it is very much a boys name.

anatol · 08/10/2018 18:17

Anyway OP, sorry to derail. Eloise and Arthur are lovely!
