I have always loved Ada but husband says it's too popular.... Came across merryn and I really like that.. And so does he.
What do you guys think?

I love Merryn. Unusual but really pretty without being twee.

I don't like Ada. To me it is harsh and ugly sounding.

Sungura · 06/10/2018 22:31

Use the name you both like.

AdaColeman · 06/10/2018 22:35

Ada is totally fab and gorgeous!

But Merryn is a bit meek and mild.

Junglerum · 06/10/2018 22:36

Only opened this for the hmnn Grin

ImNotonLinkedInNo · 06/10/2018 22:38

I love Merryn! so pretty and unusual.

I also love Mwirren/Muireann. I find Ada a bit dull.

smorgasborgen · 06/10/2018 23:16

Yes, the hmmmm was a mistake. Did a night shift last night and can barely string a sentence together! ConfusedGrin

Ada is still firmly an old lady name in my mind and I really don't like it I'm afraid.

Merryn is a lovely name and makes me think of Cornwall and happy summer holidays!

basquiat · 07/10/2018 01:43

Ada is great!!

Merryn is not. Not great at all.

Myshinynewname · 07/10/2018 01:51

Ada is still an old lady name to me. It also sounds very similar to Ava which is hugely overused around here.
Merryn is beautiful.

Shadow1234 · 07/10/2018 03:23

I love them both.

PlumpAndPlain · 07/10/2018 15:01

I have a Merryn and she's awesome! Definitely not meek and mild! Ada is rising in popularity if that is important to you - I know of 3 little ones named Ada/Ayda

smorgasborgen · 07/10/2018 18:05

Ah, plump and plain, where did you find the name Merryn? I'd never heard of it until I opened a baby name book and I kept going back to it. Do you ever shorten it? X

I like both but prefer Merryn as it's different whereas Ada would get lost in the sea of Ava's and Eva's

PlumpAndPlain · 11/10/2018 05:07

I met a girl years ago called Merryn and when my daughter was born, it resurfaced in my memory. It never gets shortened but she's not quite 2 so there's time for that!

RedDwarves · 11/10/2018 09:28

I don't like either. I love Ava though, despite it's popularity.

Merryn is much a bit meh. Ada is very harsh and unfinished sounding.

SputnikBear · 11/10/2018 09:30

Ada is lovely. I’d have thought Merryn was a man, it’s very close to Mervyn.

hoping2018 · 11/10/2018 10:16

Merryn!

hoping2018 · 11/10/2018 10:16

Ada makes me think of Robbie Williams wife on X factor

PurestGreen · 11/10/2018 10:22

I love Merryn. Ada makes me think of Cold Comfort Farm. Which was a great book but not a good association for a small child!

Myusername101z · 11/10/2018 10:23

I really like Hmnn

ladycarlotta · 11/10/2018 10:23

I know of one newborn Ada - I can see it gaining popularity because of its sounding similar to Ava, and also because Ada Lovelace is becoming better known-of.

Merryn is beautiful though, and not so much attached to a trend. If I had to choose, I'd go for that, although Ada is perfectly nice.

Flamingosnbears · 11/10/2018 13:09

Ada Merryn is lovely

daisypond · 11/10/2018 13:15

Merryn. Ada is dull.
