Judge my shortlist!

I've basically just uploaded a screenshot of the baby name list I've saved on my phone. I'm too lazy to type out the full list 🙈

So which is your favourite boy and girl name from each of my lists?

Any on the list that you absolutely despise? Be honest

Any other name suggestions that you think I may like based on the names already on my list?

Thanks ladies x

Love you girl names ! Only name I hate is Albie - so common now and just seems a bit babyish and silly for a grown man! Unless it's short for Albert which makes it better.

TillyTheTiger · 03/10/2018 08:44

I like all of them except Grayson and Mae. Love Rosalie, Madeleine, Florence and George.
If you use Ted/Teddy maybe think about giving him Theodore/Edward as a long name so he has a more grown-up option as a teen or adult.

OutPinked · 03/10/2018 10:39

I don’t like shortened names. Out of the boys my favourites are Sebastian and Oscar, I’d go with Sebastian out of the two. Girls names Ivy and Violet are the best.

Rebellia · 03/10/2018 10:44

Hate Grayson.

Albie and Teddy are fine only if short for Albert/Edward/Edmund/Theodore.

Mae is awful, misspelt and boring. The other girl names are fine, though Penny should be short for Penelope.

FunSponges · 03/10/2018 10:45

Sebastian and Fern or Rosalie are nice. Grayson is bloody awful.

VioletCharlotte · 03/10/2018 10:49

Favourites -
Sebastian and Florence

Least favourite-
Teddy and Penny

Momma22 · 03/10/2018 12:49

The overwhelming impression I get is that Sebastian is one of the most liked boys names on my list. It's probably my favourite too. OH is only just coming round to the idea hopefully it will keep growing on him! His favourite name is Teddy, I like it too, although I do have to agree with what some of you ladies have said, it's more or a nickname, unfortunately I'm not keen on Edward and OH is not keen on Theodore. Girls names we're finding really hard to agree on, when I was pregnant with my first DD we had the same issue, we finally settled on Annabelle for DD which I still love, kind of glad I didn't have a boy as I've completely gone off all the boys names I had shortlisted for her. Any girls names suggestions that would go nicely with Annabelle? Which names on my list sound nicest with my first DD's name in your opinion?

Rebellia · 03/10/2018 13:01

I think Annabelle and Sebastian go together beautifully! Little Anna/Annie and Seb/Sebbie 😊

why12345 · 03/10/2018 13:15

I've got a Teddy a real one not an Edward and let's just call him Teddy. Its a great name! If you like a name use it.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 03/10/2018 13:24

I like Rosalie, Scarlett and Fern.
George and Sebastian.
Not keen on Finn or Florence.

Momma22 · 03/10/2018 13:25

I'm going to show OH this thread, I think seeing how loved the name Sebastian is will make the name grow on him even more.

As long as OH is on side I'll be happy enough, just interested to find out what MN think as I want my child to at least have a name that the majority of the general public will like and isn't going to raise too many eyebrows. I do like the fact that I get lots of compliments on DD's name, so I'd like similar for my future DC. Don't want eveybody to say 'what were they thinking?' But at the same time I'd prefer my child not to be one of ten children in the school with that name, trying to steer clear of the top 10 names, however would like something towards the bottom of the top 100 so it's at least a name that eveybody would have heard of IFYSWIM? Interestingly I'm more willing to go with a slightly less unique boys name and more fussy when it comes to girls names.

Annabelle and Rosalie sound lovely together !

tartanscot · 03/10/2018 13:47

Rosalie and Annabelle go lovely together.

CaptSkippy · 03/10/2018 14:01

Not wild on your entire shortlist, so I am not sure if my opnion is of much use to you, but for a girl I like Mae the best one so far. You could also spell it Mei, which is probably why I like it.

Momma22 · 03/10/2018 14:09

A girls name which I actually love but isn't on my list is Primrose. Unfortunately Primrose is DD's middle name already, so I couldn't use it for DD no 2, or could I?

OP posts:
CaptSkippy · 03/10/2018 14:12

If you like Primrose, you could call your next daughter Catnip (Katniss). Wink

Sophronia · 03/10/2018 17:25

Sebastian, Rosalie or Florence

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 03/10/2018 18:54

Yes, you can use it, Annabelle and Primrose, very nice !

Glumglowworm · 03/10/2018 20:40

I really don’t like Albie at all but especially not when it’s not short for Albert

I like George or Oscar from your boys list

Florence or ivy from the girls list although Bonnie has been growing on me

BipolarMumof3 · 03/10/2018 20:44

Teddy or Bonnie. Good luck with everything 😁

failingat40 · 03/10/2018 21:25

I dislike Albie and Sebastian.

Albie will need repeated /spelling out depending on accent and Sebastian I find very pretentious.

I dislike Mae from the girls list. The rest are fine.

Echobelly · 03/10/2018 21:32

If going for Ted/Teddy I'd actually use the name Edward (which I like) officially and then use one of those on a day-to-day, so he has the option of using Edward if he wants something with more gravitas when he's older. DS is known by a familiar version of his name but has the full name on his birth certificate as we felt he should have the option to use it.

Sebastian is nice too - but one of those that has to work well with surname.

Grayson - I'm not mad keen on these names that sound like surnames and have only recently become a thing. OTOH Grayson Perry is cool AF.

Penny's nice and a bit unusual, though again, I might officially give the full name Penelope for the same reasons as above.

Ivy and Florence are good, too.

Scarlett is nice although quite popular, and you do have to be careful with surnames (Scarlett Marks etc)

RedDwarves · 03/10/2018 21:53

I like Oscar and Sebastian for a boy, and Fern, Violet, Madeleine and Florence for a girl.

ladytmp · 04/10/2018 16:50

love grayson & madeline!

JaneJeffer · 04/10/2018 16:52

Grayson sounds like the name of a butler.
