I love the name Bridget, and whilst I am not currently TTC I have a baby name list. I mentioned this name to DH and PIL, they all immediately said they didn't like it as all they could think of is Bridget Jones' Diary! Is this really how most people feel about the name?

I like Bridget and love the nickname Bridie - I know a gorgeous little Bridie.

I hate the nn Biddie though.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 29/09/2018 16:57

It’s a very Irish granny name. Most I know get shortened to Bridie.

I know a toddler Bridie-Mae which is....not my cup of tea.

💕 Bridget.

I am a Brigid rather than Bridget. Quite happy with my name thanks!

Eleanor90 · 29/09/2018 17:43

I agree with you OP, Bridget is lovely and strong! Lots of lovely shortenings too.

I love it. I know a lot of people see it as frumpy but I fully disagree. To me it's chic and edgy. Super cute on the name peg. Cool for a teenager.
Powerful in the boardroom.
I think you should definitely go for it

My dmil was Bridget, we always called her Bridie which I think is pretty her mum called her Bidna though, my dsil is Bernadette my dcs always called her Detta as they couldn’t say Bernadette.

moomoo85 · 30/09/2018 20:36

I really like it

ReginaPhalange89 · 30/09/2018 20:44

I do automatically think Jones when I hear Bridget. But that might be because I don't know any personally.

im not really keen but not sure why. Think it might be a bit grumpy, not girly sounding

n0ne · 30/09/2018 21:14

I love the name and don't think of Bridget Jones (nearly just wrote BJ then!) I also love my own name Smile

Sungura · 30/09/2018 21:29

Nope, I don't think Jones; and I've listed some version of the name on every query for baby girls names.

RavenWings · 30/09/2018 21:31

I think it is very frumpy Irish granny, yes. Brigid is a bit better but not by much.
