Wow, surprised to see Amos, Ivo, Finnian, Quentin,

Sunflower321 · 21/09/2018 20:50

and Tobin! Some great names, thanks.

Smoliver · 21/09/2018 21:00

There's some great names on here, I'm surprised they aren't more popular.

My favs are Daryl, Everett (really surprised this isn't more popular, especially with Elliot being popular), Finnian, Griffin, Harold, Eugene and Rodney.

finallychangedmyusername · 21/09/2018 21:36

I adore Dashiell, Conrad, Jolyon and Everett and am amazed that more people are not using these handsome names!

bridgetreilly · 21/09/2018 22:34

Wow, I love:
Alaric
Barnabas
Edgar
Gilbert
Gus
Ivor

Oddly, I don't like any in the second half of the alphabet!

mummabubs · 22/09/2018 17:33

I'm guessing this isn't a complete list as I know there were less than 50 babies with my son's name born last year but his name isn't on the list? Some interesting names on here, I really like Torbin too.

mummabubs · 22/09/2018 17:33

Ahhh sorry, missed "selection of" in the OP, my bad.

HeyNumber2 · 22/09/2018 17:37

Thank you, been trying to think of a name for DD’s other toy zebra (I suggested Xavier and DH laughed his socks off at me) Zephyr the Zeb it is!

GinIsIn · 22/09/2018 23:38

Really surprised Wilfred is on there - I know 2 who were born last year!

starkid · 23/09/2018 08:57

My favourites:
Basil
Benji
Caesar
Cecil
Cedric
Dougal
Edgar
Ferdinand (love this but DH won't let me have it due to footballers)
Indigo
Pip
Wren

If anyone follows Mrs Meldrum, she's mentioned Ptolemy in a baby names video before. Might see a few more pop up as a result!

BertrandRussell · 23/09/2018 09:20

Also remember that there are about 300000 boys born every year. So you can go much more popular than "50 times or fewer" and still get a very uncommon name!

QuaterMiss · 23/09/2018 09:20

Goodness me - all the good (UK) names are there!

Must take a look at the girls’ list.

Cbeebiesrehab · 23/09/2018 09:23

Very surprised to see Wilfred and Bohdi on there!! They seem achingly ‘in’ right now! Maybe they will do an Arlo next year.

BertrandRussell · 23/09/2018 12:02

I do think there is a problem of perception about the popularity of names. And people exaggerate. “Every second baby I meet is called Wilfred” “There are 4 Wilfred at ds’s baby group” really means “I have met a Wilfred once/ somebody famous has a Wilfred and I have seen it mentioned a lot on Mumsnet” Grin
When you look at the figures there are only about 300 Wilfred’s a year out of 3000000 baby boys.

ABCFamily · 23/09/2018 16:14

Actually I just double checked and Wilfred was used more than 50 (326 Wilfreds in total, so still pretty low). However Wilfrid was only used 10 times. I must have misread & changed it to the more common spelling when I typed. Sorry!

Scratch Wilfred/Wilfrid from the records!
