As in the title really. I absolutely love the name Gene for a boy but my best mate has a gorgeous one-year-old Dd called Jean. Would she be annoyed do you think? Would you?

I'd ask her - I guess you won't know otherwise! Worse case scenario she says she'd rather you didn't, but would likely be flattered you like the name so much. At least you know for sure that way how she feels about it.

Crunchymum · 18/09/2018 20:53

I really wouldn't.

crisscrosscranky · 18/09/2018 20:58

Gene for a boy is much nicer than Jean for a girl!

bluet · 18/09/2018 20:59

Agree with the PP but not sure your friend would be happy about it at all!

I really wanted peregrine for my youngest (shortened to gene or pip) I think you should go for it.

Speak to your BF and ask what she thinks. It may be confusing to the children though if they spend time together x

More2Fly · 18/09/2018 21:13

Don't do it. Plenty of other names out there

lunar1 · 18/09/2018 21:14

Just don't. There are plenty of names.

Gah mixed replies! Thanks though!
I think if I ask my friend should say she was fine with it, even if not IYSWIM.

I don’t think you should- there are thousands of names and I’d be a bit annoyed/confused if I were your bf

Hideandgo · 19/09/2018 20:40

I wouldn’t.

Cosmoa · 19/09/2018 20:48

I mean.. Gene and Jean seem like unusual names for a baby these days to me. But besides that, I really wouldn't. Especially if you want your children to be friends. It's not like they can be shortened to different names when they're together to avoid confusion.

8DaysAWeek · 19/09/2018 23:09

Wow that's the first time I've heard of a baby in this millennium called Jean. It's my late mother's name and if I ever have a daughter I plan on using it as her middle name. My mum was my everything but that's still not enough to give her he first name Jean!

Annnnyway. Choose another name I say.

Sessy19 · 20/09/2018 06:44

Are you pregnant, or is this hypothetical?

I would be pretty offended if my best friend used the same name for their baby as I used for mine...literally thousands of other names....
