Is this name any good?! Any bad characters with this name/ any reasons against it?

Friend is drawing a blank with girls names and has two weeks until she gives birth! This is her only name and wants feedback...

Her only girls name I should say, she’s managed to find 4 boys names she likes! They don’t know if it’s a girl or boy...

I'm curious to how this is pronounced. Is it Leon-e?

Hollyjollybells · 09/09/2018 21:51

It's more like Lee-O-nee
With emphasis on the O

Notmyrealname85 · 09/09/2018 21:52

Holly has it!

I’ve only met one other Leonie and she’s very nice! But maybe it’s a bad sign to have only met one, we’re trying to see if there’s a reason it’s underused

I like it. I loved Georgette Heyer's books as a teenager (tbh they are still a guilty pleasure) and would have considered it for dd if it wasn't for the fact that a family member beat me to it.

LadyDeeDeeDee · 09/09/2018 21:57

I know one adult Leonie. She's a cool woman. I like the name.

Hollyjollybells · 09/09/2018 21:59

One of my elderly grandmothers is called Leonie but I wouldn't associate it with older ladies!
But then I watched Ex on the beach and there was a girl on there with the name Leonie...kind of put me off personally tbh but obviously one bad Leonie doesn't make the name bad!

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 09/09/2018 22:00

My friend from school was pronounced
Laynee

doodlejump1980 · 09/09/2018 22:02

Love it. It’s French. I’ve only ever met lovely Leonies.

Wolfiefan · 09/09/2018 22:04

I've only met one and she was lovely. I like it.

GuavaPalava · 09/09/2018 22:05

It's part of my 20 year old daughters name so it gets my vote of course

abbie9 · 09/09/2018 22:25

Love it!!!

bridgetreilly · 09/09/2018 22:27

I've heard it pronounced a lot of ways!
LAY-oh-nee
LEE-oh-nee
Lee-OH-nee

For that reason, mostly, I'm not a fan.

IHeartKingThistle · 09/09/2018 22:30

I've only heard it as Lee-OH-nee and I love it.

Jasharps · 09/09/2018 22:35

skankingpiglet · 09/09/2018 22:48

A good mix of ideas.

BreconBeBuggered · 09/09/2018 23:02

Love it.

DramaAlpaca · 09/09/2018 23:04

I love it. I've only heard it pronounced LeeOHnee. It's unusual these days & very pretty.

MadMaryBoddington · 09/09/2018 23:10

I know a middle-aged Leonie. She’s a strong character who has forged a very successful career in a male dominated industry. I like and respect her massively. But her name has never seemed to suit her somehow - it sits a bit twee on her.

Not a fan.

Essexgirlupnorth · 09/09/2018 23:14

It's my sister in law's name but never met anyone else with it. She uses the nickname Leo

serendipitintea · 09/09/2018 23:30

The only one I've ever met was a thiefSad

Sunflower321 · 10/09/2018 07:03

I know 2, both pronounced LEH-onie, with the emphasis on first syllable. I quite like it.
