names.darkgreener.com is great!

This article tell you how many babies were born in 2016 for each name. You can search names for both sexes. 2017 stats haven't been released yet.

That article doesn't seem to include any names outside the top 100, sadly. Still interesting though.

Sunflower - you can search any name in the search section and it tells you how many babies were born. Not just top 100.

Try this

www.behindthename.com/top/lists/england-wales/2016

Sunflower321 · 06/09/2018 11:13

Wilde, no neither my name, ds or dd's name are included, it says' it found in our data'. So I assume it only includes the 100 most popular names?

Sunflower321 · 06/09/2018 11:17

Snuggy, thanks but that also only includes the top 500 names.

But the darkgreener site above includes ALL names given (or at least those used at least 3 times). Thanks for the link.

wildewillow · 06/09/2018 11:31

Sunflower - plenty of names come up that are not in top 100/500/1000. But I think it will only work if there are more than 2 births registered of that name in a year. Possibly that's why it's not working for your names and they are rare.

I have seen on nameberry you can look at the uk top 1000 names for 2016 too.

Sunflower321 · 06/09/2018 11:46

Yes, you're right and that could be it (although the names were used about 20 times in 2016).

Haworthia · 06/09/2018 11:48

You need the National Statistics baby name spreadsheets. They list EVERYBODY name registered, all the way down to those with a count of three (they leave off the totally unique/barmy names for anonymity reasons). I’ll find a link for you now.

Everybody? DYAC. I meant every Grin

You can download the full spreadsheet of official ONS data here:

PutneyBridge · 06/09/2018 13:55

Oh sorry, I hadn’t refreshed the thread since loading it this morning!

WhyIsntGeorgeCalledPeterOrPaul · 06/09/2018 14:01

Darkgreener website is easily the best. It uses the ONS data from the spreadsheets above, but also includes the data for the last 20 years, so you can get a picture of how popular the name has been over time rather than just last year. All with a super easy search function. Love it.

Sunflower321 · 06/09/2018 14:27

Great, thanks for the links. Very interesting.

moredoll · 07/09/2018 23:28

another vote for Darkgreener. Only covers England and Wales though.
