WDYT of our current top pairings?

We currently don't know what we're having but we're trying to narrow down our huge girl's list! WDYT of our current 'top' pairings?

G/G:
Beatrix & Cecily
Edith & Frances
Florence & Primrose or Willow
Margot & Penelope

G/B:
Beatrix & Zachary
Emmeline & Zachary
Felicity & Sebastian
Penelope & Sebastian

B/B:
Elias & Zachary
Elijah & Zachary

Please feel free to add suggestions/mix and match from our list - we need the help lol. This was supposed to be our last baby which turned out to be our last babies so I feel torn, knowing this will be our last chance to use my/our favourite names lol.

B: Elias, Elijah, Sebastian & Zachary
G: Beatrix, Cecily, Edith, Elodie, Emmeline, Esmée, Felicity, Florence, Frances, Imogen, Margot, Penelope, Phoebe, Primrose, Willow*

*are still maybes. Thanks!

Out of your boys names I love both Elias and Elijah,
Out of your girls names I love Esmée, Florence, Imogen, Penelope.

I think Florence and Willow would be cute out of your current potential pairings :)

I think Elias and Esmée would be cute for a G/B pairing!

Peachbubble · 05/09/2018 09:02

From your boys' list, I like Elias, possibly Elijah.
For the girls, I like Beatrix, Edith, Elodie, Felicity, Margot, Primrose and Willow.

UghNoWay · 05/09/2018 09:08

I think it might help you decide if you stopped looking at the names as 'pairs' of names. Just try to find you top two favourite individual names and chose them regardless of how they sound together.
Obviously you need to check they don't sound bad together and don't rhyme or whatever but other than that trying to 'pair' names is unnecessary.

Personally I'd also avoid having two children with the same names that start with the same initial. We did it by accident with two of our kids and it's surprising how often we get post and don't know who it's for. It's not relevant when they are little but is when they are teens and adults.

pixieloux · 05/09/2018 09:15

@UghNoWay - Yeah, we're not doing initial sharing or similar names so no Elias & Edith or Zachary and Penelope, for example. I've always thought that it must be confusing with the post with initial sharing lol.

Pairing them up is what is helping us narrow things down as we're going nowhere individually lol. All our children have 3 syllable names so I was thinking of maybe sticking with that if we go with Elias, Elijah or Zachary which narrows down the girl's names a lot. If we go with Sebastian then maybe a subtle connection with shared syllables which narrows it down to 2 names. Both our girls have word names so we could stick with that unintentional theme which narrows it down especially as 3 out of 4 of our boy's names pretty much mean the same thing. We're going to have to be nit picky to narrow things down, I think.

B/B - Elijah and Zachary

G/B. - Beatrix and Zachary

G/G - Beatrix and Cecily

pixieloux · 05/09/2018 09:18

3 out of 4 boy's names pretty much mean the same thing as our son's name* - They are grouped together in that they're religious names, not that we're religious. We just seem to have a style lol.

Lancelottie · 05/09/2018 09:18

Not Margot with Penelope. Too reminiscent of The Good Life!

pixieloux · 05/09/2018 09:20

@Lancelottie I've honestly never seen it lol. I just love the two names, both separately and together.

OP posts:
Sugarpiehoneyeye · 05/09/2018 09:25

I like Primrose and Willow and Zachary and Sebastian.
Emmeline and Zachary, are lovely together.

Lancelottie · 05/09/2018 09:36

Ah. Penelope Keith rather famously played Margo Leadbetter in it.

Reebeetee · 05/09/2018 10:19

Elias- don't like
Elijah- it's ok
Sebastian- makes me think of that Steve Harley song. Really don't like
Zachary- really don't like
Beatrix- nice
Cecily- really really don't like
Edith- makes me think of downton abbey. Also a bit too 'old lady' IMO
Elodie- too frilly
Emmeline- like it!
Esmée- ok
Felicity- ok
Florence- ok but a bit popular. Will be linked to her generation
Frances- ok
Imogen- no
Margot- love Margot!
Penelope- lovely!
Phoebe- bit 'wet'
Primrose- no
Willow- too hippy

I love love love Penelope and Margot and would put those two as a pairing.

For boys I'd go Zachary and Elijah

For a boy and girl I'd go for Penelope and Elijah

silverliningsa · 05/09/2018 10:38

Favourite of your pairings are

GG
Beatrix and Cecily

GB
Emmeline and Zachary

BB

Elijah and Zachary

Favorite overall names from your options are Elijah, Zachary, Beatrix, Emmeline, Margot

My BG would be Elijah and Margot (I actually have BB twins and one is Elijah!)

ReginaPhalange89 · 05/09/2018 11:57

G/G Florence & Willow (also love Phoebe & Florence together)
B/G Felicity & Zachary or Phoebe & Zachary!
B/B Elijah & Zachary

LarkDescending · 05/09/2018 12:20

Tweaking for what would be my favourite combos:

G/G: Florence & Cecily
G/B: Florence & Sebastian
B/B: Elias & Sebastian

Sophronia · 05/09/2018 12:49

Beatrix and Cecily
Emmeline and Sebastian
Elijah and Zachary

DesmondSwayne · 05/09/2018 15:33

GIRL GIRL

Love Cecily and love Florence, but not so keen on Beatrix (sounds like a drinking game to me - Beer-Tricks) or Willow/Primrose (they're a bit hip, and less professional).

Therefore, my top choice for girl/girl would be Cecily and Florence. Also like Margot, and I think it goes well with Florence too.

DesmondSwayne · 05/09/2018 15:35

In summary, my favourite (tweaked pairings) are:

GG
Florence and Cecily
Florence and Margot

GB
Florence and Sebastian
Emmeline and Sebastian

BB
Elijah and Zachary
(I don't like Elias)

pixieloux · 05/09/2018 16:02

I hope this is easy to follow as I've tried to condense the length but these would be the pairings we'd go with to avoid matchiness.

B/B
Elias & Sebastian or Zachary | Elijah & Sebastian or Zachary | Sebastian & Zachary

B/G
Elias & Florence, Imogen, Margot, Primrose or Willow | Elijah & Florence, Frances, Imogen, Margot, Primrose or Willow | Sebastian & Beatrix, Cecily, Edith, Elodie, Esmée, Felicity, Florence, Frances, Margot, Penelope, Phoebe, Primrose or Willow | Zachary & Emmeline, Esmée, Frances, Imogen, Margot, Primrose or Willow*

Maybes
Elias or Elijah & Beatrix, Cecily, Felicity, Penelope & Phoebe | Zachary & Beatrix or Edith - Are there too many ee sounds/rhyming components? I'm also taking into account their potential shortened forms (Eli & Bea or Cece, for example)

G/G
Beatrix & Elodie, Emmeline, Esmée, Frances, Imogen, Margot or Penelope | Cecily & Emmeline, Esmée, Frances, Imogen or Margot | Edith & Frances, Imogen or Margot | Elodie & Frances, Imogen, Margot | Felicity & Imogen or Margot | Florence & Phoebe, Primrose or Willow | Frances & Imogen, Margot or Penelope | Imogen & Margot or Penelope | Margot & Penelope | Phoebe & Willow | Primrose & Willow*

The others that are left out as because of the potential rhyming issues too - don't know if I'm over thinking it but we need to narrow this down anyway lol.

  • are still maybe names on our list.

Can I suggest Beatrix and Florence?

I also like Florence and Primrose

Emmeline and Sebastian

Elias and Zachary

LeeMiller · 05/09/2018 16:18

I like most of them except Willow and Primrose which are less classic, and Cecily which I find too frilly. Prefer Elijah to Elias. Florence, Margot, Esmée and Penelope all seem quite poppular now and might tie her/them to their generation more tha some of the others.

They're mostly quite long names, can you rule any out based on the inevitable nicknames? Personally I'd rule out Imogen(Imy) and Penelope (Penny) and Phoebe (Pheebs) on that basis.

I like
Beatrix and Emmeline/Frances
Sebastian/Elijah and Beatrix
Elijah and Sebastian/ Zachary

pixieloux · 05/09/2018 16:20

@17caterpillars1mouse I'm a bit iffy with the word names on our list as our daughters both have them (unintentionally)... I feel like it's best to either break things up and not use any, as it's not an in your face/obvious theme now, or go all in lol. My husband thinks I'm weird for even worrying about it lol.

OP posts:
pixieloux · 05/09/2018 16:24

@LeeMiller - We have thought about shortened forms. Beatrix because of Trixie but we like Bea) and Florence because of Flo but we like Ren, were considered. I'm underwhelmed by them for Frances, Imogen, Margot but I don't dislike them per say. I don't mind Penny, I do prefer Nell though and I think we'd use Bea for Phoebe too.

Goostacean · 05/09/2018 16:25

Wow, lots of names! I’ll come back to the girls list later, but as for the boys, personally Elias is my least favourite because I don’t know how it’s pronounced... :/ I prefer names that are obvious in pronunciation, having spent my life explaining my own name to people.

I’d go with Elijah and Sebastian, or if you’re bothered about the number of syllables, Elijah and Zachary. Do you prefer Seb or Zach? I’d choose on the basis of that, for your B/B choice! :)

RiverTam · 05/09/2018 16:26

Edith and Frances

Elias

Don’t like any of the others.

Please don’t do Margot and Penelope, that immediately made me think of The Good Life (‘Margo’ is played by Penelope Keith).

pixieloux · 05/09/2018 16:35

@Goostacean It's pronounced like Ee-Lie-Us so not that far from Elijah. I'm not overly bothered by syllables - I think being nit picky is just going to help us narrow things down lol. Our girl's list is the main issue - we keep subtracting, adding, subtracting and adding again lol.
