final two baby girl names

I was wondering which baby girl name some of you prefer out of these two. I’m trying hard to pick one but it seems impossible at the moment 😪. They are Genevieve and Elizabeth. For Genevieve we would use the nicknames Evie, eve, neve, Ginny, Gia. Since gen/genny are such a disservice to the name, and for Elizabeth it would be Elle/Ellie/ & Lily since we don’t like the nns Beth, betsy, Betty, Liz, Libby, all of those.

So we’re really torn on which one to pick. What do you guys think?

I like Genevieve best. X

bridgetreilly · 04/09/2018 18:24

If you're going to call her Ellie or Lily, I wouldn't choose Elizabeth.

Disfordarkchocolate · 04/09/2018 18:25

I prefer Elizabeth, and I'd use the full name, it's a beautiful name. Don't quite get the nickname business on here.

greencatbluecat · 04/09/2018 18:25

Both are lovely. Elizabeth has the advantage that people can generally spell it.

KalindaBlack · 04/09/2018 18:25

I was going to say Elizabeth, but then I saw the nickname Ginny, which I love x

TroubledLichen · 04/09/2018 18:25

Both lovely names, you can’t go wrong with either really. Genevieve would get my vote though as I’m not sure about Ellie/Lily being short for Elizabeth.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 04/09/2018 18:26

Genevieve. I love the nicknames for it x

WLmum · 04/09/2018 18:27

Genevieve is beautiful! So much more interesting than Elizabeth. It was on my list but dh's spelling is atrocious and he thought he'd never get the hang of it!

FawnDrench · 04/09/2018 18:32

Genevieve for me - a beautiful name.

Enidblyton1 · 04/09/2018 18:35

Genevieve - Ginny

Why use the name Elizabeth if you want to shorten it to Ellie??!

Icklepup · 04/09/2018 18:35

Genevieve

vitaminC · 04/09/2018 18:41

Elizabeth is elegant, timeless and sounds classy pretty much everywhere.
Geneviève is my MIL's name and even she hates it. We're French and it sounds frumpy and cumbersome to a french ear. Don't use it if you think there's a chance she may choose to travel outside the UK one day.

cactusplant · 04/09/2018 18:44

I wouldn't go with Genevieve.
I picked a name for dd (now 3) that has 9 letters). She has only ever been called the 5 letter shortened version.

She thinks her name is the shortest version and gets confused when people address her properly.
I don't have many regrets in life but I wish I had just registered her with the short name as that is her name to us.
Learning to spell it will be a bitch

Icypop · 04/09/2018 18:45

Her peers rather than her parents will choose her nickname(s) that she will be referred by. Even if you call her one nickname she will come home with others. Id go for genevive seeing as you dont like any of the 'standard' nicknames for elizabeth.

17caterpillars1mouse · 04/09/2018 18:50

Genevieve nn Ginny

I've met alot of little Elizabeth's recently but never met a Genevieve and love Ginny

Blueroses4 · 04/09/2018 18:54

Elle and Ellie are too short and sound like they would be a nickname for something. So elizabeth would be a nice long name to have behind the cute nicknames. ( this is my opinion of course) ☺️❤️

^^ That was an answer for Enidblyton1 I forgot to tag it :)

Why does she have to have a 'nickname'/shortening?
Elizabeth is lovely, just as it is.

I have a dd with a long name and she has a variety of affectionate nicknames/shortenings within the family, but goes by her full name. And it's fine.

Timtomtam · 04/09/2018 19:15

Elizabeth is lovely but I've heard it so much irl and on mumsnet that I'm kind of fed up of it!
Genevieve is really pretty and much more unusual so I'd say go for Genevieve

ReginaPhalange89 · 04/09/2018 19:19

I'm not one for having an 'official name'. I'd never give mine a name on their BC if I wasn't going to regularly use , just my opinion .

But of the two I prefer Genevieve , NN Ginny is really cute

I love the name Elle on its own though

SuperstarDJ · 04/09/2018 19:21

I prefer Genevieve. Though apart from Ginny none of your nicknames seem to fit/match the longer names especially the nicknames that you’ve chosen for Elizabeth.

RavenWings · 04/09/2018 19:36

You can't control what the nickname will be, she may choose one that you don't like.

Elizabeth is deathly dull and Ellie etc names are overdone. I'd go for Genevieve.

LucyFox · 04/09/2018 19:38

Well, it would have been Elizabeth until you said you’d call her Ellie or Lily - both of those are very overused at the moment & neither is a good nn for Elizabeth
Genevieve is lovely, but not using the nn Ginny (that’s is better as a nn for Virginia) and Evie is way too popular. Would you be pronouncing the “English” way (Jen-a-veeve) or the french way? Would you consider Vee or Veeve as a nn?
Why not chose a lovely name that you like as is without trying to make up a nn that

Blueroses4 · 04/09/2018 19:41

I like both names haha 😅 I was just sharing the nns that would be used for them. I’m not picking the names based on the nicknames. I was just saying the nns that would be used. 💓

Much prefer Genevieve. I like Ginny as a nickname.

Ellie and Lily are overdone at this point.
