We also can't decide on a DD name!

Hello, our 2nd daughter is here and OH and I are struggling with her name. He's said no to most of my suggestions and now I'm very confused. He likes one of my options, but now I'm not so sure anymore myself...

Her older sister is called Millie and we often shorten it Mill when in a rush. We are Italian and the name chosen needs to sound the same or similar in English and Italian so family abroad can pronounce it.

The top 3 names I can't decide between are (name's meanings in brackets if anyone is interested):
Jessie (God beholds/God's gift), shortened to Jess if needed,
Alessia (defender), shortened to Ale/Allie/Sia/Cece if needed,
Noemi (from the Bible, pleasant/sweet, the Italian way to say Naomi), shortened to Noe/Nom i think.

I like Jessie and its meaning and I feel it would suit her and it would go the best with Millie but maybe it's the least original name.

But I also keep going back to Alessia which I love for our daughter and also think would suit her, but feel it is a bit unbalanced with Millie.

And I think Noemi is also lovely...

Can you help me? Thank you xxx

Alessia is beautiful, that's my favourite out of the bunch.

ReginaPhalange89 · 31/08/2018 19:42

I think they're all lovely actually.l, although I'm not keen on the spelling of Noemi. I'd rather Naomi.

I have a Jessica - usually shortened to Jess! Love it . Goes nicely with Millie too

TallSlutNoPantiesthe2nd · 31/08/2018 19:45

I like all of them (although would use Jessica rather than Jessie)

How do you pronounce Noemi?

hellsbells552 · 31/08/2018 19:45

I like Alessia - and you could shorten to Lessi ☺️

charitypringle · 31/08/2018 19:52

Noemi 100%.

MammaUpNorth · 31/08/2018 20:02

Thank you so much for all the input so far, please keep it coming :)

I found online a YouTube link that pronounes it exactly the Italian way

I think Millie and Jessie would be a great combination. Is Alessia pronounced A-less-ea or more like A-lee-sea-r?

MrsMolehillMountain · 31/08/2018 20:17

I think Noemi sounds very silly when it's not pronounced with an Italian accent. I can imagine it getting butchered by people who can't say it properly.
Alessia is the nicest but I'm not keen on any of them (sorry)!
Jessie is too nicknamey.
Congratulations on your baby Flowers

bridgetreilly · 31/08/2018 20:17

I love Noemi.

MammaUpNorth · 31/08/2018 20:29

Thewolvesarerunningagain - I'm not very good at writing how to pronounce names but the first one (A-less-ea) seems the right way (ie NOT Alicia sounding). Thank you x

Due to the very very many Millie's around, I would try and avoid another extremely popular name for your DD2. Noemi looks like it's spelt wrong and Jessie is yet another i.e. ending name. Alessia is my favourite of your list, but I prefer Alicia.

moredoll · 31/08/2018 21:03

Alessia, definitely.
I think Millie and Jessie sound awful together.

MammaUpNorth · 31/08/2018 21:04

When we named our daughter we did not realise how popular Millie would be (she is simply Millie, but we have friends with Amelias shortened to Millie too so I can see why it is so common).

I am a little OCD which is why I feel Jessie ending in - ie too d match better and that would be good. Noemi would sound like it ends similarly.

Alessia is a longer name and unbalanced to Millie, but I love it too. Alicia is nice too but the C sounds different in Italian. Same for Alice which I considered x

I love Jessie. I much prefer it to Jessica. And I think it goes perfectly with Millie (fwiw I only know one Millie so it’s not super popular everywhere.)

Jus to out of interest, is Millie pronounced the same in Italian as English? I thought it would be like Mee-lee-uh

ZebraKid71 · 31/08/2018 23:05

Alessia is gorgeous. Noemi is OK.

Dislike Jessie.

RedDwarves · 31/08/2018 23:16

Alessia.

I like Naomi but not Noemi, which is pronounced quite different.

OhNoGroken · 31/08/2018 23:18

Absolutely Love Noemi if you have the Italian connection!!

DramaAlpaca · 31/08/2018 23:20

I get the feeling from your posts that you really love Alessia, more than any of the others. I'm a great believer in choosing a name that you love, so I think that's the one you should go for. Sibling names don't always have to 'match' so I wouldn't worry too much about how well it goes with Millie.

MikeUniformMike · 31/08/2018 23:21

Alessia

Quangot · 31/08/2018 23:49

Alessia

Sophronia · 01/09/2018 00:04

Jessie goes well with Millie

Icklepup · 01/09/2018 15:29

Alessia!

Flamingosnbears · 01/09/2018 16:31

toothtruth · 01/09/2018 16:35

Alessia is gorgeous!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 01/09/2018 16:56

How is Noemi pronounced?

I prefer Jess to Jessie, Allessia looks made up to me.
