If we like Aoife and Maisie...?

DD2 is due to arrive shortly and we are completely stuck.

DH loves Aoife and whilst I love the sound I am concerned that the poor kid will spend her life having to explain how to pronounce & spell her name.

I like Maisie but he thinks it's too close to Daisy and floral names are a no go (apparently).

Any suggestions gratefully received, time is ticking away...

Not sure if you're in the UK, but Aoife is getting more popular over here, and I think more people are aware of the name than say 10 years ago. Saying that, you are right that there will still definitely be people who have problems with the spelling and pronunciation, but that is the case for a lot of names, tbh.

Why not go for Eva which is lovely and very similar in sound

99namesandnot1works · 30/08/2018 21:22

We like Orla but already have an Isla so too similar I think.

Millie and Evie have gone on the list.

Thank you

I have an Aoife. Yes she has to spell it a lot and yes some mispronounce the first time they hear it. However at age 14 she is one of few in her year group who LIKES her name. Says its not what everyone has.

AnEPleaseBob · 30/08/2018 22:56

If you love Aoife go with that. Lots of people have to spell their name., bout lots of people know how to spell Aoife! Its not that hard.

shakeyourcaboose · 30/08/2018 22:59

Not helping.. but Caoimhe? (Keeva)

villainousbroodmare · 30/08/2018 23:40

Aoife a million miles ahead of the others you mention. It's both sweet and elegant. Aoife is a swan. Millie and Maisie are like a pair of cute chubsy guinea pigs. Evie is a nickname for a toddler called Eva. Imo.

kettleonplease · 31/08/2018 00:32

I also loved Aoife for DD2, and Maeve. However, we're in Australia so spelling most definitely would be an issue here.

Isla and Aoife sound really beautiful together!

Ds2 has an Aoife in his class.
As long as your happy explaining how to spell and pronounce it to people go for it it's a beautiful name.

I second choosing Aoife, it's beautiful, classy and elegant. Millie, Evie and Maisy are none of the above.

99namesandnot1works · 31/08/2018 10:28

Lots of love for Aoife then. I do love it, thanks for all the input will keep pondering.
