Is it a 'stripper' name?

I really like the name Luna for a girl, but my boyfriend's friend said it sounded like a stripper's name!
Does it? What do you think?

Just makes me think 'looney'/lunatic...

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 31/08/2018 06:30

I'm going to a young Luna’s birthday party next week. She's lovely, happy and the name really suits her. I like it.

Sometimesitsmyownfault · 31/08/2018 08:51

The only Lunas I know of are dogs I'm afraid and it is getting more common. But people do call their dogs 'human' names so maybe we should all share?

JustlikeDevon · 31/08/2018 09:39

Name of next doors bloody awful happy dog. It barks, owner tells LUNA and all I can think is TIC.

JustlikeDevon · 31/08/2018 09:40

Yappy not happy!

PinguDance · 31/08/2018 13:46

Chrissy Tiegen and John Legend's daughter is called Luna. I like it, no stripper associations from me!

deptfordgirl · 31/08/2018 13:48

Not to my taste but I don't think stripper.

deptfordgirl · 31/08/2018 13:48

More Harry Potter

Viebienremplie · 31/08/2018 14:17

My 10 year old announced yesterday that she's going to change her name to Luna when she's old enough! It made me smile, she's an obsessive Harry Potter fan. She does already have a perfectly nice name, she's just going through a phase Wink

For a new baby, I like the name, the HP reference wouldn't put me off.

KnotsInMay · 31/08/2018 14:31

I know an adult Luna and have known her since she was a young teen.

Guess what? No one calls her loony.

I also know a kitten called Luna.

Guess what?

No one gets confused. It is not the same as naming a child Fido or Scamper.

Agree with the Pp on MN shiftiness and childishness over names.

Lexi is not a ‘stripper name ‘ either. It is usually short for Alexandra or Alexa.

FFS.

mehhh · 31/08/2018 14:33

Luna is lovely!

sexnotgender · 31/08/2018 16:41

I almost called my cat Luna.

I do like it but probably wouldn’t use it as it’s very popular now.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 31/08/2018 16:44

The only stripper I know is called Sophia.

RatherBeRiding · 31/08/2018 16:47

I know at least 2 canine Luna's and possibly a horse too.

It's a nice name but very Harry Potter-ish.

InterstellarSleepingElla · 31/08/2018 17:08

My first thought wasn't Harry Potter but a character from a new drama I have been watching (Burden of Truth if anyone is interested!).

I think it's a lovely name. I would happily call a child that!

user1483387154 · 31/08/2018 17:17

To me it's quite a ditzy name associated with the Harry potter stories

TheHollowLeggedGoat · 31/08/2018 17:21

I know a dog, a cat and a one year old girl all called Luna. No strippers.

MrsGB2225 · 31/08/2018 17:22

I like it. Not a stripper name

smurfandturf · 31/08/2018 17:36

One of my ferrets is called Luna. The others are Neville and Ginny.

TheDowagerCuntess · 31/08/2018 20:31

There are lots of stripper names out there, but this isn't one of them.

Wouldn't make my cut for other reasons, but it's not a stripper's name.

SemperIdem · 01/09/2018 21:02

No, not a stripper name. I like it, though can’t ever use it as my daughter has another 4 letter starts with L ends with A name, which I ultimately preferred to Luna.

HappyStripper · 01/09/2018 21:08

As a stripper, I can confirm I’ve never met a Luna. I’d say it’s definitely more alternative than strippery and can’t see it making much money in the club as hipstery names only appeal to a younger crowd and they tend to be broke.

So I think you’re solidly in non stripper territory!

QueenofmyPrinces · 02/09/2018 06:53

I know someone with a Luna and whenever she mentions her daughter’s name my subconscious automatically thinks, “Why have you given your child an animal’s name?”

My mom has a cat called Luna. It’s a great and common name for pets and in my opinion it just isn’t a human name Smile

Sessy19 · 02/09/2018 07:39

Maybe the name Luna has become popular as a result of so many dogs and cats with the name.

Oscar and Alfie were firm pet names in my region during the ‘90s and early ‘00s, then suddenly every yummy mummy is giving their floppy haired moppet the name!! Us southerners are such big pet people that our fluffies inspire baby-naming!!
😂😂

Sessy19 · 02/09/2018 07:40

PS. I know 4x strippers called Amy.
