Violet Elizabeth

We’re going with Violet as our dd’s first name, and were considering Elizabeth as a middle name for family reasons and because I think it flows well with Violet. Thought the combination sounded slightly familiar and a quick google helped us realise why - the Just William books, which I was a big fan of when I was younger!

Would the Just William books and Violet Elizabeth Bott (“I’ll thcream and thcream till I’m thick”) put you off using Violet Elizabeth as first and middle name?

Our surname is one syllable but doesn’t start with B if that matters. It’s something along the lines of Scott, Jones etc.

If you think Violet Elizabeth is a no go, do you like any of the following?: Violet Olivia
Violet Amelia/Emilia
Violet Aurelia
Violet Victoria
Violet Felicity
Violet Penelope
Violet Antonia
Violet Cecilia
Violet Evangeline
Violet Natalia
(I think four syllable names with the stress on the second syllable flow best with Violet and our surname, though feel free to say if you disagree)

I realise I’m probably overthinking this, but naming a person is such a huge responsibility!

I haven't heard of either before (probably because I'm not British?) but I wouldn't use Violet Elizabeth now that you've identified less than positive associations.

My favourites of the options are Violet Emilia, Violet Penelope and Violet Cecilia.

Violet Antonia or Violet Felicity.

themagicamulet · 26/08/2018 09:22

Instant Bott here too! I like Violet in theory but would worry about the risk of it being shortened to Vi, which is a bit too headscarf and curlers for me. Love it as a middle name though.

TatianaLarina · 26/08/2018 10:00

Yep, Bott.

Violet Aurelia or Cecilia are beautiful (and much nicer than Elizabeth).

vampirethriller · 26/08/2018 10:43

Just William sorry

AlphaJuno · 26/08/2018 11:29

My little sister is called Violet Elizabeth, surname begins with B too! Tbh I didn't know about the Just William books. My mum did but thought it didn't matter. Violet seems to becoming quite common these days imo.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/08/2018 11:52

I really like Violet Olivia, it's lovely !

TubeTop · 26/08/2018 11:54

... Bott! You can't.

Zebrasinpyjamas · 26/08/2018 11:58

I don't make the connection with Just William but (vaguely) know the character you mean. I'm also relatively rare on mumsnet that I don't think middle names matter that much (as long as the parents like them). They are not used in real life very often. If you like Elizabeth use it!

GraceMarks · 26/08/2018 17:20

Bott is definitely the first thing that came to my mind, but I'm not convinced it matters. How much use will her middle name be getting? I never use mine and only my immediate family even know that I have one.

MouseClogs · 26/08/2018 17:22

Have to be honest, Bott was my first thought too (am in my mid 20s).

SassitudeandSparkle · 26/08/2018 17:23

Yep, another Bott here just reading the thread title!

DC2018 · 26/08/2018 22:39

Violet Elizabeth is nice but Violet Aurelia is my favourite by far. It flows beautifully and I love both names individually x

Lucy1103 · 28/08/2018 22:04

Would this be a problem for your child though as not many of her peers would be familiar with the books?
