Hi all,

I put a post on the other day that we had narrowed names down to 2 for our first little one due in oct (boy).

We both work in schools so want a unique name we wont come across lots in years to come. We now have 5 on the list again, i know they wont be everyones cup of tea as not traditional and some bit wild but be good to hear thoughts :)

Oscar
Ezra
Ozzie
Hugo
Buddy

Thanks! Confused be nice.... haha

OP posts:

CaitlinsYellowSocks · 25/08/2018 07:39

Hugo is my favourite.

Oscar is nice too, but fairly popular if that bothers you - Ezra quite cool and more unusual, although I personally prefer Oscar.

Really don't like Buddy or Ozzie except as nicknames.

DuggeeHugs · 25/08/2018 07:51

Definitely Hugo

AtticaRose · 25/08/2018 08:19

Hugo, Oscar and Ezra are all fine.

Ozzie would be a good nickname for Oscar.

Buddy just seems like a nickname (for anything?)

Icklepup · 25/08/2018 10:12

Ezra or Hugo

Flamingosnbears · 25/08/2018 10:14

How about Buddy as a middle if it's a top contender... Ezra Buddy quite cool.

unicornchaser · 25/08/2018 10:21

Just on the basis of you not wanting a name that the classrooms will be full of, I would stay away from Oscar, Ezra and Hugo. Ezra especially seems to be in everyone's choices for baby boys this year (according to all the threads I have read of late 90% of them have Ezra as an option.......)

MikeUniformMike · 25/08/2018 10:25

Oscar - no.
Ezra - yuk
Ozzie - great but short for?
Hugo - great but popular
Buddy - nn

RavenWings · 25/08/2018 10:25

Oscar - this is one of the most generic, popular names there are. Nothing wrong with it but unique it aint.
Ezra - flying up in popularity so you'll also be following the herd with that one. Nice though.
Ozzie - Australian/Ozzie Osbourne. No. Stupid name imo.
Hugo - ok name, bit more unusual but again nothing rare about it.
Buddy - nope. Twee, cutesy, toddlery.

Belindabauer · 25/08/2018 15:40

Ozzie and Buddy sound like Nick names.
Both remind me of the singers.
I too think of Ezra Pound.
Hugo and Oscar are nice but not unusual.

GoodHeavensNoImAChicken · 25/08/2018 15:46

Oscar, Ezra or Hugo. All lovely

Cbeebiesrehab · 25/08/2018 15:53

OP why don’t you have a look at names on the ONS website outside the top 100, you’re more likely to find something unusual/less used there.

DramaAlpaca · 25/08/2018 15:55

Oscar is the best of the bunch.

LeeMiller · 25/08/2018 18:10

Oscar, Ezra and Hugo are all nice but not uncommon.

Use Buddy and Ozzie as nicknames if you like them.

kenandbarbie · 25/08/2018 18:13

I like Hugo or Oscar

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 25/08/2018 18:15

Oscar, not Hugo.

cakesandphotos · 25/08/2018 18:17

Ozzie is short for Oscar or Oswald. I like Hugo

Jnl90 · 27/08/2018 20:11

Thanks everyone.

We have today came across the unique name of "Ozlo". This can be spelt Oslo but we prefer it with the Z so it links to ozzie and not just a capital city. Be interested to hear peoples thought? Smile

OP posts:
Knittedfairies · 27/08/2018 20:17

Hugo or Ezra from your list. I’m not keen on Oslo or Ozlo - he could spend his life singing 🎶 ‘I’m Ozlo with a zee not Oslo with an ess’🎶

Pinkyyy · 27/08/2018 20:17

I love Hugo! It may (or may not) be worth noting that Ezra is the name of a character in the star wars rebels series that came out a couple of years ago, have no idea how popular the series is but thought I'd mention this as you said you didn't want something that could possibly become popular

Cbeebiesrehab · 27/08/2018 21:17

Sorry OP, whilst Ozlo is definitely unusual I really don’t think it’s a good name. However you seem really keen on Ozzie and keep coming back to it so maybe you have found your name!

Quangot · 27/08/2018 21:25

Oscar (or Oswald) with nickname Ozzie could work?

I like Ezra and Hugo best.

NordicNobody · 27/08/2018 22:07

I really like Oscar and Ezra but as others have said they're far from unique and either very popular or likely to be very popular soon. I taught a little Oscar at my last school who was nn Ozzie and he was wonderful. I've never actually met an Ezra but I know it's tipped to be popular in a year or 2. I think of Ezra Pound and Ezra Keats when I hear it, who are both brilliant namesakes. Hugo is OK, but a bit wet IMO, a little bit "made in Chelsea". Ozzie is fine as a nn but I wouldn't use it as a full name myself. Personally I really dislike Buddy, I just think it sounds silly. Ezra and Oscar get my vote, but you'd have to be ok with not having a unique name.

foodiefil · 27/08/2018 22:11

Ozlo would definitely be different!

Ezra and Oscar are quite popular at the mo. I know two baby Ezras.

Hugo is around but less common.

Tobias? Tobi for short 🤷🏻‍♀️

Felix

Buddy is quite cute but makes me think of Jamie Oliver

Touchnotthiscat · 27/08/2018 22:13

From your list I like Buddy and Ezra best. Ezra is definitely on the increase though.
Osian or Ossian is a nice alternative to Ozzy

CocoLoco87 · 27/08/2018 22:14

Still love Oscar. Have you considered Otis?
