We're pretty set on this name, but aren't sure which spelling to go with.

I think Ciara and Keira are my favourites.

We're not Irish though, so I'm not sure if it would make more sense to use Keira. (Also, I knew someone with the Ciara spelling and people were constantly calling her Kee-ah-ra)

I also knew a girl with the Kira spelling at school - she was Indian, which were not, but I wonder if the simpler spelling is better?

Keira or Kira

As someone who works in a school, I always struggle with this name due to subtle variations and impact on pronounciation.

Blondemother · 24/08/2018 21:59

Personally I like Keira the best of you are not Irish. It’s a beautiful name!

Would think Kira would sound different, shorter - go with one of the usual spellings.

pouraglasshalffull · 24/08/2018 22:00

Keira

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 24/08/2018 22:01

I know lots of Ciara's .... For me, any other spelling just looks wrong.
However, I know a lot of Irish people so that's probably why. They always struggled in school with spellings - although, I thinks it going to be just one of those names that always gets misspelled.

rainingcatsanddog · 24/08/2018 22:02

Kira looks like it should rhyme with killer (so Ki-rah rather than Kee-ra

Ciara looks like See-a-rah to me too.

Kiera or Keira are the spellings that I would go for. Keira Knightley uses the second spelling but I think I read on here that Kiera is the correct spelling.

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 24/08/2018 22:06

Ciara is the correct spelling. It's an Irish name. Other spellings are anglicised versions

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 24/08/2018 22:09

If you’re English but don’t want to go for the original spelling that gives the Ciara pronunciation then spell it Keera.

MikeUniformMike · 24/08/2018 22:52

I don't like the sound but would go for Keira.

Sophronia · 24/08/2018 23:04

Ciara

kettleonplease · 24/08/2018 23:13

How do you want to pronounce it? I'd say Keira pronounced Keer-ra but Kiera pronounced Kee-ah-ra?

BonnieF · 24/08/2018 23:19

I prefer the proper Irish spelling ; Ciara.

HidingFromDD · 24/08/2018 23:31

I think Ciara is too close to the Italian Chiara so would assume it's pronounced the same way (Kee-ay-ra)

blondeemily · 24/08/2018 23:34

I'd go for Keira. I also think See-ah-rah when I see Ciara.
Lovely name by the way.

RavenWings · 25/08/2018 10:32

Ciara is the nicest by a mile.

Dani18 · 25/08/2018 12:19

Kiera would be how I spell it x

everythingsgoingtobealright · 25/08/2018 12:58

Yeah I prefer the Ciara spelling, although some people do pronounce it how you said.
I would assume Kira was pronounced the same as Kyra, like Ki-rah, so maybe not simpler.

Annabelle4 · 25/08/2018 13:02

Ciara, PLEASE

It's an Irish name, and the letter 'K' doesn't even exist in the Irish language.

justanothercatperson · 25/08/2018 13:10

I have a Ciara, Irish heritage etc, and I didn't think it would be that difficult with the pronunciation.

Constant correcting of it from 'ci-ar-a', 'se-er-a' or just Clara. And having to spell it out all the time as people assume it's Keira. In the pharmacy the other day, the woman looked at the label, I could literally see her brain whirring as she tried to figure out the pronunciation... in the end she gave up and just called out the surname.

Beautiful name, and I love it, in fact the spelling made me love it even more, just be warned! Oh and we are in London (not sure if that even makes a difference, but hey!).
