Is it reasonable to assume that 'Margot' is the latest MN fad?

Personally I can't stand the name, it reminds me of maggot...but that's not the point!

Anyone else recall any prior MN fads? I'm sure Violet was one recently as well.

Eh who isn't pronouncing the T in 'often'? Do you pronounce it 'ofen'?

DiegoMadonna · 24/08/2018 15:09

I haven't noticed Margot being suggested any more than other names on here tbh.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 24/08/2018 15:18

I pronounce often like ofun so without the T.

WillowRose79 · 24/08/2018 15:19

I don't really see the point of the T at the end? It's pronounced Margo isn't it?

adoggymama · 24/08/2018 15:34

I love the name Margot (known to me due to Margot Robbie!) and would love to use it as a name/middle name for a girl.

Correct. Language often doesn't have a "point".

I don't see the point of the H in Thomas, but there it is!

CorneliusCrackers · 24/08/2018 17:18

There’s no point in the last ‘H’ in Hannah Sarah, or the ‘e’ at the end of Amelie or Rosie

But without them they look wrong, as that is the correct spelling. Names have history’s going back centuries, to spell them phonetically is —chavvy— ‘younique’

CorneliusCrackers · 24/08/2018 17:19

Histories! Not history’s 🙈

pixieloux · 24/08/2018 19:17

Love Margot, it's on our list along with a lot of other MN fads, it seems. I don't think it at all harsh sounding and don't understand the maggot thing at all. My youngest is also Violet so I guess I'm a sheep lol.

YY to Margot, Genevieve, Clara, Ottilie. Also Francesca, Atticus, Kit, Teddy, Quentin, Orlando, Otto, Xanthe, Daphne, Olive, Astrid, Heidi, Polly.

I don't like Margot and yes, I know the t is silent. Somehow it still sounds harsh. Embargo, aggro, bingo. It's a short form of Marguerite, which is nicer IMO.
