I also agree that Eloise is lovely - although it does make those of us of a certain age think of The Damned.

Venetia sounds pretentious to me

Which on here apparently means middle class.

Not at all. I grew up in a working class area, but now live and teach somewhere much more middle class. The names I think of as standard middle class names are solid, traditional ones: Elizabeth, Olivia, James, William. That sort of thing.

I've never come across Venetia. Maybe it's more common in upper-middle class circles or different parts of the country. To be honest, it sounds a bit twattish to me (but I was too polite to say that in my first post). It sounds like it would go with names like Tarquin.

You’ve never come across it so it must be pretentious. Maybe you just to need to get out more.

It’s very bizarre to think that only traditional names are middle class.

Elise is beautiful Venetia reminds me of vet or veinetta.

There’s another current thread on here in which OP is told that Rupert is ‘middle class’, ‘pretentious’, ‘aspirational’.

I pointed out that if OP is middle class that’s all null.

The upshot is that you must your place, don’t get above yourself or transgress class boundaries.

What's wrong with being middle class?

Ozgirl01 · 25/08/2018 15:23

I like both, but prefer Venetia.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 25/08/2018 15:31

Venetia sounds like blinds to me as well. Really like Elise though!
