Hello all! My husband and I are expecting a boy in October, and we're thinking about these names: Chester or Darren.
We love both! Thoughts?

Darren?!!! Oh no, don't call him that!! I mean, Chester is terrible but at least it's not Darren.

Darren is awful.

Chester is better but still not great. Agree it sounds like a horse's name. Sorry :(

Darren is very err... 70’s. I have relatives in their 40’s (siblings to each other) called Darren and Sharon Grin.
Chester is preferable.

Darren's a bit 'rough' in my opinion. Chester too posh!!

Sorry!

Darren is very dated and not in a good old-fashioned way. Darius, Dario, Aaron all sound similar but are better.

Chester is a bit cutesy and sounds like a pet's name. But miles better than Darren.

What about Dara or Daragh..pronounced the same. Much nicer name than Darren.

What about a mix of the two?

Dester, D-Ster, D'chè, Charren, Charster, Chesten?

Report
Takfujimoto · 20/08/2018 15:40

Darsten! That's not to bad actually.

Goostacean · 20/08/2018 16:05

Charren...?! Made me snort, thanks @takfujimoto

Chester, OP. Pick Chester.

Don't like either- sorry!
Chester conjures up images of a ginger cat to me..
And Darren is a very dated name

I'm not particularly keen on either I'm afraid. Darren is very dated and I'd associate it with the 80s/90s, Chester is a lovely city so that has good connotations for me but still doesn't quite sound like a person's name iyswim. Other vaguely similar names could be

Aaron
Rowen
Dara
Dorian
Hunter
Jesse
Harrison

Ooh, SoyDora, wonder if we know the same Darren and Sharon siblings?
I know lots of 40 something Darrens but I know two around the age of 11 or 12.

How about Farren? I've met a couple in my life time, both under 18. Sounds fresher than Darren. I like Chester though too.

Report
Joeybee · 22/08/2018 02:12

Darren is so dated and common.
Chester sounds much more fresh, is unusual but not too out there.
