Traditional girls names - inspire me please!

So we found out about 3 months ago that we were having a girl and I still haven’t managed to get past the letter C in the baby names book. We’ve got another 3 months to go but I’m just not inspired at all, nothing seems to feel right.

DS we had a name chosen for well before this stage and I could name another three boys but I’m totally stuck on girls.

I’d like something traditional and preferably that has a couple of possible shortening or nicknames that she could choose from later.

I’m pretty sure the middle name will be Elizabeth but DSs name begins with E so we’d ideally like DD to have a different first initial. We’ve got a fairly harsh sounding one syllable surname.

I love Beatrice but DH doesn’t, I also like Charlotte but think the royal connection will mean its really popular. Victoria is OK but probably out for family reasons. I should like Rebecca based on my criteria but I’m not sure I do.

Based on that can’t anyone inspire me at all?!

@makingsmilingyourbesthobby

I hope you meant Verity not Verify!

I don't know why, but the idea of a baby called Verify has given me the giggles.

I wouldn't worry too much about Charlotte getting too popular. I think the reverse happens and people tend to avoid a recent royal name as they don't want to be seen as copying.

I love Beatrice!!

We are having a boy, but if it had been a girl she would have been Margaret. I'm a stickler for traditional names on the birth certificate, and then you can use a nickname day to day if you choose to.

I think Margaret is lovely on its own, but it does have a bunch of nicknames associated with it. Some nicknames are: Maggie (obvs), Maisie, Peg/Peggie, Margo/Margot...among others.

We were going to go with Margot as a nickname.

I’m Katie Elizabeth but also have friends that are Charlotte Elizabeth and Georgina Elizabeth.

butlerswharf · 16/08/2018 20:07

Thanks folks!
I had thought about Beatrix instead of Beatrice but I might have an equally hard sell to DH!
Sadly Bridget is out as it doesn’t work with our surname.
There are a few others that are close friend or family names so I’m not sure if I’d feel a bit odd about using them.

It’s interesting how many of the suggested names have a shortened version that could also be a boys name. I actually quite like that.

Georgina is one I hadn’t considered although it is an old family name too - we have quite a lot of George’s and it reminds me of the Famous Five! I might test that on DH too. He currently says he’s not even discussing it until I’ve narrowed it down to a shortlist of 10 Hmm
