Lambrini?

I think it's such a beautiful name. I love how it means 'bright, shining, brilliant' and that it's not overly popular. What do you all think of the name Lambrini?

MikeUniformMike · 14/08/2018 20:52

or Dom Perignon

dementedpixie · 14/08/2018 20:53

They sell it in the supermarket. You just can't use it as a name

Starlight345 · 14/08/2018 20:54

Nope it is cheap wine

SummaLuvin · 14/08/2018 20:57

I think it has been established there is an alcohol brand connection. Is it really helpful to reel off any others you can think of :/

HotSauceCommittee · 14/08/2018 20:57

Asti-Spumante is a lovely name for a girl.

FrozenMargarita17 · 14/08/2018 20:59

What about blue nun

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 14/08/2018 20:59

Nah, Chardonnay is well better.

It's a classic.

UpOnTheDowns · 14/08/2018 21:03

Mateus Rose? Wink

toastofthetown · 14/08/2018 21:09

So clearly the drink connotation is stronger than I’d realised, but some of these posts seem quite mean and hurtful (comparing the name to Chlamydia for example). I made it clear in my OP that Lambrini is actually a name with a beautiful meaning, therefore not a joke. Just because a name isn’t popular doesn’t mean you have to be rude about it. I hope no-one called Lambrini ever reads this :( Ignorance is far less classy than a traditional Greek name.

I agree OP, some people have been really nasty. All the best with your name search.

booandbumpp · 14/08/2018 21:17

Sorry OP, I genuinely thought it was a tongue in cheek post and didn't realise the Greek connotations. That was ignorant of me.

DC2018 · 14/08/2018 21:32

It's a horrible name and is associated with cheap, chavvy alcohol. There's loads of lovely Greek inspired named that are much better.
Some suggestions,
Arcadia
Calliope
Eliane
Isadora
Kostantina
Maya
Eloisia
Corianna
Carissa
Bronte
Arista
Arianna

SisterNotCisTerf · 14/08/2018 21:59

To be fair OP we have had many pisstake threads started with a very similar OP to yours. Its really hard to tell these days which threads are serious on MN anymore. And you’re bound to have known that lambrini is the name of a drink? There have been tv ads in the last couple of years “lambrini girls just wanna have fun” etc.

Jammin3 · 14/08/2018 22:01

It was actually the name of one of my daughters paediatricians , I shit you not. Even I was like... what?

ReginaPhalange89 · 14/08/2018 22:31

It came across as a pisstake even with the explanation, wouldn't have been the first joke post either.

Sorry to have offended you , but my honest opinion is that it's not a nice name for a baby. I would guess 95% of the UK population will automatically associate it with the cheap drink and cringe at it.

Normally I tell people to go with a name if they really love it, but in this case I'm sorry I really wouldn't use it !

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 14/08/2018 23:18

Sabrina
Katrina
Eleni

vampirethriller · 15/08/2018 08:53

Mateus Rose? Or Sambuca?

vampirethriller · 15/08/2018 08:58

Though it seems you're actually serious, so what about Greek names that aren't cheap wine, like Callista/Callisto, Cassandra, Penelope, Kora, Calliope etc.

Glumglowworm · 15/08/2018 10:16

The association with the drink is so strong that everyone assumes this was a joke thread. I think that says it all!

I would assume a child called Lambrini had been conceived while the parents were drunk on cheap nasty wine. Sorry.

FishCanFly · 16/08/2018 15:17

White Ace Grin

FishCanFly · 16/08/2018 15:17

or Amber Jack Grin

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 16/08/2018 16:17

OP I think people just automatically assumed this was a wind up, they weren't being intentionally nasty. At least now you know what people's reactions would be if you went ahead with it.

pouraglasshalffull · 17/08/2018 14:52

Please do not call your child Lambrini, your child will be bullied for their entire lives thanks to the cheap wine. It also reminds me of something a chavvy mum would cal their child. Please, just no

pouraglasshalffull · 17/08/2018 15:45

There are some absolutely beautiful names you could use instead, my 2 favourite are Maya and Arianna as previously mentioned by someone

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 17/08/2018 15:50

OP you may like the name but you are setting your daughter up for a life of torment and ridicule if you call her this. You would be incredibly stupid and also selfish to do this.
