English/Serbian boys names

Posted about this a while back - dh is Serbian, I'm British, and we want to choose names that work in both Serbian and English.

We have two dds already - Leonora (Norah) and Violeta (Lettie) - and want a name for ds that 'goes' well with them.

We were going to use Aleksandar, but our next door neighbour has just had a baby boy who she's named Alexander. This hasn't 100% put us off using the name, as she calls her son Alex, while we would favour the nicknames Sacha/Xander, but we thought we'd just see if we could find any other names that we like as well.

This is our shortlist:
Aleksandar
Ivan
Milan
Luka
Stefan
Andrej
Leonel
Danijel

I love Milan and Aleksander - but the former is much more unusual here.

Dimitri, Zoran..?

  • unusual in a good way,

I’ve only met two.

Stefan would be a great choice.

I also like Luka and Andrej.

Sorry for my Aleksander suggestion (I’d skimmed your OP and missed that part).

Milan is my favourite on your list.

MadgeMidgerson · 14/08/2018 16:17

Y y Nikola!

FruitOnAPlatter · 14/08/2018 16:19

Ilija I have a soft spot for.

Do you want a common or uncommon? I work with a lot of Serbians, and around me, the top names are Marko, Zoran, and Goran.

How about Nikola or Mirko - those at least are pronounced as they are spelled.

Cariadxx · 14/08/2018 17:22

I think Stefan and Daniel work the best. If you're living in the UK I wound use the English spelling unless you're totally set on the Serbian o ff as it'll make his life easier not having to constantly spell his name

Sophronia · 14/08/2018 17:24

Filip

Zoran

Not Slobodan! - it is strongly associated in the UK with Milošević

Sava

Not Leonel if you already have Leonora, IMO.

My favourites are Stefan, Andrej and Luka!
