Too Strange?

Hi! I really love the name Victor, and so does my husband. We're due to have a baby boy towards the end of August, and we thought Victor would be a lovely, strong name for him. But I'm now backtracking because my good friend brought up the fact that "Victor" will make people think of "Victor Frankenstein", and now I'm unsure about it! Help!!!

I’ve never heard of Victor Frankenstein. Was that his name? (Not being funny.)

I also had a grandfather Victor (Vic) who was amazing. Loved him very much, a wonderful man. I like the name.

Victor is a fabulous name, I really like it. I might think of Victor Frankenstein, but I don't think it matters. Frankenstein is the creative scientist, not the monster itself.

I like it, I think of Victor Hugo too.

I like Victor, but I think of Vic Reeves!

Makes me think winner. That's not a bad thing.

Victor Meldrew was cute.

I feel like we have different definitions of 'cute' going on.

Victor is a perfectly good name!

Nothing strange about Victor - go for it if you like it! All names make people think of someone particular anyway - you'll never find one that has no connotations at all. I immediately thought Krum, lol!

I like it. But also why is Frankenstein a bad association? It was a story about a scientist whos experiment went wrong, written by an intelligent woman.

Love it. Strong name. And Vic is a great nickname.

I like it a lot. And love Vic for short.
It's a good strong name. I work with children for past 8 years and we've never had one

I've read Frankenstein and had forgotten his name was Victor. It's a great name.

I didn't know Frankenstein's name was Victor either. I'd think Meldrew and possibly Spinetti but also 'what a cool, uncommon, classic name'. Vic would be cute on a little boy/teenager.

It's a great name, and doesn't bring Frankenstein to mind at all. At most Meldrew, or Vic Reeves, but that won't mean much to the next generation anyway. I'd go for it.

I didn't know Frankenstein's name was Victor either. I can't see that being an association.
If you asked me for a famous Victor, I'd have said Meldrew (yes, I know - fictional character), but I don't think people he'll grow up with would know the character.

I personally think of it as an 'old man' name, which, along with all the Stanleys, Reggies, Alfs, etc., seems to mean it is time to be back in fashion.

I really like it! Those older names are fashionable now, and its a well known name but not commonly used, so best of both worlds

Nice name.
What about Victor Augustus.

I think it's a strong name and wouldn't make me think of Frankenstein at all! I know 2 Victor's born in the last 2 years.

Your friend is bonkers ! 😂
Seriously, Victor is a great name, I very much doubt they will.
