Giving daughter a porn stars name?!!

Hi All,

First time posting but I have been stalking the name boards for a while and could do with some advice.

Me and DH both adore the name Cassie for our little girl due in November and it has been our top choice for ages but a couple of days ago I decided to Google what would be her full name and the first few pages on Google were filled with an apparently well know 'webcam artist' who performs dressed as a Disney princess but then still has a penis! There were thousands of images and even when I put safe search on there were still images coming up as this person is apparently also a trans activist and pretty vocal online.

It has really put me off the name as I would hate for my daughter to Google her name one day and find all of this, even as a young girl I worry she will see something or be drawn in by the Disney princess angle. DH understands where I am coming from but doesn't think it is too big an issue and that things will have moved on by the time DD is old enough to Google herself.

Am I overreacting thinking we need to move on from Cassie and choose something else? Or would you stick with it? Is it as much of a big deal as I think it is? I just feel like the name is ruined and when I look at her I will think of those disturbing images. Could do with an outside perspective? Is it just hormones as DH doesn't really think it's an issue?

Thanks xx

I think you're overreacting tbh.

Cassie isn't my cup of tea (it's a bit nickname-y/too cute) but this wouldn't put me off a name I like.

There are so many porn actors / people in the porn industry...

Mousefunky · 08/08/2018 12:38

I think most people will find a pornstar bearing the same first name as them. Just one of those things. If you were to use an obvious pornstar name like Crystal I’d understand but Cassie doesn’t automatically make me think of a pornstar.

ZebraKid71 · 08/08/2018 13:46

It's a difficult once cause I remember at school often googling our names to see what came up. I'd give a longer name but nn cassie. I really like cassia. I doubt you'd Google a nickname if you're going down the route of googling your whole name.

My daughter has a porn star name. Whatever :)

For all those saying this person doesn’t come up when you google Cassie, the point is that they come up when you google ‘Cassie OP’s surname’ - it’s not just the first name she’s worried about, it’s the combination.

Yeah don't think some people are grasping this. It's like having the surname Campbell and thinking of calling their DD Naomi. Neither name is problematic or unusual, it's the pairing that creates the link!

Honestly OP I'd either pick something else (Serena is lovely, not try hard at all) or use Cassidy. I would want to avoid this individual cropping up when your DD or her friends learn how to Google their own names, and that will probably happen sooner than you think. If you found this person that easily then they will too.

MariaMadita · 08/08/2018 14:25

Cassie OP’s surname’ - it’s not just the first name she’s worried about, it’s the combination.

I did miss that... Blush

I'm sorry, but I wouldn't do it.

Cassidy is nice. Or maybe Cassandra or Cassiopeia?

But that might still be "iffy", especially if everyone ends up calling her "Cassie Surname"...

Is there the possibility of a hyphenated surname?

MariaMadita · 08/08/2018 14:28

Serena is lovely.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 08/08/2018 14:32

How about Jocasta as a longer version?

user1471443026 · 08/08/2018 15:40

Thanks for the thoughts all, and yes - it is with the surname that is bothering me. It's quite a common surname so I might as well share but she would be cassie brooks (in case anyone wants to look!)

I do really love Serena so we might go for that instead. I don't think it is 'try hard' in its self but the area we live in and people we socialise with would definitely think we were a bit pretentious for using it and she would probably stick out in the group. Most of my friends children have quite popular and hyphenated names (Evie-Mai, Olivia-Rose, Alfie, Freddie-Jay, Bobby-Jay etc).

I googled the name and the second result was the twitter page of a journalist?

Anyway, the one you're worried about is just a camgirl and in a fairly niche market too, so I don't think it's really anything to worry about. She'll be long gone in 10 years.

And like you said, it's a fairly common name anyway.

MariaMadita · 08/08/2018 17:23

acusports.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=3753

Is also a person with that name combo.

But I personally prefer Serena.

How about Serena Cassie Surname? You could obviously also hyphenate the two names... But that doesn't seem to be a popular (or commonly regarded as "stylish") choice in the UK.

FASH84 · 08/08/2018 21:03

A good friend of mine is called Cassie and DHs GM was known as Cassie although her full name was Kathleen. Both lovely ladies and I'd never have associated the name with porn. I was expecting you to say Kristal or Destiny etc

FASH84 · 08/08/2018 21:05

Even googling with the surname I get all sorts before the person you're referring to on page two

hungryhippie · 08/08/2018 21:10

I wouldnt do it,
On my search engine I get pages of pictures of the camgirl.
I use duckduckgo and I dont have safe search on.

vampirethriller · 09/08/2018 11:06

It's my 30 year old sisters full name, my friend's name (short for Cassandra) and none of us have ever heard of the person you found, so I don't think you've got anything to worry about!

autumnkate · 09/08/2018 15:19

I did the same as you op and when I googled my favourite girl name with our surname a very famous American porn star popped up. I couldn’t do it and picked something else.
