Boys names are hard! Could I have your views on the following names please? Would you assume any particular heritage? Do you know anybody with these names?

Rohan
Ruan
Idris
Everett

Boys names are SO hard.

Of those 4, I prefer Everett.
In my mind, Idris is immediately followed Elba. Haha.
Is Rohan pronounced like Rowan? If so that's not had but I prefer the w spelling

PassportBridgetPants · 06/08/2018 21:37

I like them, though personally I wouldn't use Ruan as it makes me think of ruin. I would think maybe a Celtic influence but I don't knew much about origins so may be totally off! Everett actually sounds slightly American to me.

RiverTam · 06/08/2018 21:37

Idris is lovely. And Welsh. Though I don’t think you have to be to use it!

Everett is also cool.

I did wonder if the Elba association will be too strong

It's pronounced like it looks RO-han

Idris is the little welsh dragon who lives in Ivor the Engine’s firebox! Way before Mr Elba pitched up on our TVs. I wouldn’t worry about the Elba connection.

I know of a little Idris. I had no idea it was a Welsh name & originally presumed his mum liked Idris Elba so named him after the handsome actor. Great name, but some people like me will be stupid enough not to realise it's heritage

kaylanelson · 06/08/2018 21:56

Not to my personal taste but I don't think that there is one name in the world that everyone loves! but I think these are acceptable and cute names for little boys 💖😁

TheHalfBloodPrincess · 06/08/2018 22:06

I love Rohan! I’m a huge LotR fan though so any link to that is a winner.

Not that keen or Ruan or Idris, and I prefer Emmett to Everett.

LauraMipsum · 06/08/2018 22:07

I've only encountered Idris as a Somali name rather than a Welsh one. It's a lovely name either way.

DCam06 · 06/08/2018 22:12

I love Ruan. Its original but not odd.
I like Idris but not as much as Ruan.
I don't like Everett as it makes me think of cheap sportswear.
Rohan makes me think of that film "don't mess with the Zohan"

Sophronia · 07/08/2018 03:47

Ruan makes me think of ruin. I like Everett and Idris.

Icklepup · 07/08/2018 04:07

I like Everett.

offupop · 07/08/2018 04:09

Wait til you meet him. I knew both my children's names once I saw them.

Not a fan of any of your list though I'm afraid.

ReginaPhalange89 · 07/08/2018 08:16

Not as keen if it's pronounced RO han then, sorry ! They're all just a bit 'different' for me, prefer more traditional names

AtticaRose · 07/08/2018 08:21

I like Idris, but that's partly because of a family connection to the Welsh poet Idris Davies!

Lipsticktraces · 07/08/2018 15:48

I love Everett. I also think Idris is a lovely name, but you do automatically think of Mr Elba!
