Shortlist as follows. We are going for simple but beautiful...that would suit someone through their entire life. What do you think? Any more suggestions also welcome!

Ana
Anouk
Anoushka (too OTT?)
Lyra
Rosa
Evelyn
Aoife (pronounced ee-fa)

My favourites from your list are Evelyn (I have a 5 month old called this) and Rosa (I had Rosalie on my list).

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/07/2018 16:44

Aoife (pronounced ee-fa)

Tend to think if you have to tell people how to pronounce it, its off the list.

RavenWings · 30/07/2018 16:49

Ana - nah.
Anouk - and cranny. No.
Anoushka - like this
Lyra - would think you are a Philip Pullman fan. I like it though.
Rosa - yes, nice name
Evelyn - no
Aoife - great name, best on the list. Becoming more popular in the UK (assuming that's where you are)) as far as I can see so pronunciation should be fine. Brits cope with all sorts of names, Irish ones aren't that hard.

I'd go for Aoife, followed by Rosa. Then Lyra or Anoushka.

LoveInTokyo · 30/07/2018 16:49

Rosa or Anna but only if you spell it with a double N.

Ana just makes me think of anorexia or 50 Shades of Grey - boak.

ErrantBakedBean · 30/07/2018 17:26

Anouk is lovely. Wish we could use it but it classes with the surname...

implantsandaDyson · 30/07/2018 17:36

They're all lovely I'm of no use at all. Evelyn would maybe be my least favourite. I think Anoushka or Rosa probably are my faves.

Aoife is lovely but very very popular where I live. As in several in each primary school year popular but am sure that's just a regional variation.

NotAgainYoda · 30/07/2018 17:37

Anna

NotAgainYoda · 30/07/2018 17:38

Forgot to say that I also like Lyra

Also:

Emma
Lara
Joy

HeyDolly · 30/07/2018 17:38

I like Rosa the best. Aoife is very popular where I am so I’ve become a bit blah towards it.

Lyra is my least favourite as it just reminds me of Lycra

Maliali · 30/07/2018 17:56

Anoushka is my favourite followed by Rosa.

MorrisDancingViv · 30/07/2018 18:09

Anoushka

Aoife is a very very common Irish name, loads of us English know how to pronounce it

Itsear · 30/07/2018 18:19

Anoushka, lovely.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/07/2018 18:24

I only like Ana and Rosa.
Other ideas.
Amelia
Ava
Anarose
Rosana
Edith
Laura
Lydia

SirHubzALot · 30/07/2018 19:03

Ana just makes me think of anorexia or Shades of Grey

I've not read of seen this but that's off the list then! Blush

Glad to see Anoushka is popular. I love it but was worried it was a bit fancy and OTT.

DuggeeHugs · 30/07/2018 19:15

I love Anouk - it is my favourite!

Pemba · 30/07/2018 19:59

Lovely names, I like all of them. I like the eev-lin pronunciation, do you want that or ever-lin? Are you pronounced Ana the same as Anna, or Ah-na?

SirHubzALot · 30/07/2018 20:21

Anna and Ever-lin were the intentions. I've never heard eev-lin as the pronunciation.

Don’t take it off the list! Just spell it Anna!

Racecardriver · 30/07/2018 23:29

I thought Evelyn was a male name.

Pemba · 30/07/2018 23:35

Oddly enough, yes I think the Eev-lin pronunciation of Evelyn was originally male (see Evelyn Waugh). But has been also used for females for a long time now (eg my grandmother who would have been over 100 if she was still alive). I don't think anyone would name a boy Evelyn nowadays, it does seem very girly. I just think it has a prettier softer sound than the ever-lyn pronunciation, and seems to be like an extension of Eve (as my grandma was known for short).

AlecOrAlonzo · 31/07/2018 00:00

The Anoushka I know gets Nuk and Anouk and Nukky as nicknames.

PetitCornichon · 31/07/2018 00:09

Ana - Nice, but spelled Anna
Anouk - Nope. Sounds like an Ikea piece of furniture
Anoushka (too OTT?) - I like it, but not sure if I'd personally be brave enough to use it
Lyra - Nah, sounds and looks too much like Lycra
Rosa - my fave, very pretty
Evelyn - nice as long as you don't plan to shorten it to Evie. God, there's SO many Evie's now
Aoife - Nice, but she'll spend her entire life correcting has pronunciations

A couple of suggestions for simple but beautiful:

Orla
Isla
Skye
Zita
Lori
Eden
Nolah
Nelle
Juno
Belle
Ines
Lowri
Cadence
Heidi

PetitCornichon · 31/07/2018 00:11

Or Rosita - love this name

Enidblyton1 · 31/07/2018 00:23

My favourite from your list is Anouk - lovely name and not overly used.

LeeMiller · 31/07/2018 07:48

Anna (definitely not Ana because of the anorexia thing). Rosa is lovely.

Personally, I love Anouk. I don't think it would go with every surname though - it needs something elegant or international.
