Yes I like retro unfashionable names!
These three are on our list. What do you think?

All awful! But if I had to pick Angela , and Angel for short 😬😬😬

spreadingchestnuttree · 29/07/2018 22:58

I'm not keen on Deborah personally, just sounds a bit dull. But Michelle and Angela are nice (if you like retro 70s names Grin)

Thinking back to my year at school...

I must admit I'm not entirely sure they're ripe for a comeback just yet - give it another 30 years Grin

Her name was Deb-o-rah (Deb-o-rah)
It never suited her.

Branleuse · 29/07/2018 23:01

I think Lisa is due a comeback

tethersend · 29/07/2018 23:10

I'm a Deborah. It's taken me 42 years to grow into it.Grin

A life time of spelling it, no it's not Debra, yes I know it's pronounced that way, but believe me it's got an O on the middle. No I don't like being called Debbie because I'm not a 15 year American cheerleader, and yes you can call me Deborah, Debs or Dora (if we are v. good friends).

PointlessUsername · 29/07/2018 23:40

Kimberly is old school but still pretty imo

NastyCats · 29/07/2018 23:52

I know two young Deborahs. One is 19 and the other 8! They are both lovely and their names suit them. I also know a Lisa who is 5.

I am not a fan of Michelle but Angela is good!

A PP mentioned Valerie - in the States apparently this has quite alternative, vaguely hippie connotations. I would never go for it as I know an awful person with that name but Amy Winehouse 's cover of the Zutons' song did a lot for it.

What about Katherine or another old-fashioned but classic name like Jane, Anna, Rebecca, Rachel, Sarah, Julia (I know a 4 year old with that name who is very sweet), Claire, Mary, Natalie?

Picknickers · 30/07/2018 00:04

Michelle is horrid. Angela is ok.

FloridaPearl · 30/07/2018 00:09

I can't help but at the suggestions.

Some truly foul names! Apologies to anyone who has the misfortune of being called Pamala, Tiffany, Gillian etc

NoSquirrels · 30/07/2018 00:10

Oh Deborah do you recall
Your house was very small
With wood chip on the wall

Depends on your fondness for late 90s music I guess! I don’t much like Angie/Angela, and not mad keen on Michelle either tbh. Deborah is Biblical..

There are lots of names in that vein similar that might fit better nowadays, though.

Saloubalou · 30/07/2018 00:19

They are Mum names, possibly gran ones by the time she’s at school. Perfectly nice in the 70s.

MrsReader · 30/07/2018 00:39

How about

Jennifer
Allison
Philippa
Sue
Or Annabel too?

Saloubalou · 30/07/2018 00:51

Oh Shirley oh Deborah oh Julie oh Jane
Grin

moredoll · 30/07/2018 07:28

Deborah

Movablefeast · 30/07/2018 07:33

I love Angela! It will be rare and unusual in her peer group. Why is Angelo so trendy but Angela isn't? I think you are ahead of the curve OP!

Quangot · 30/07/2018 07:38

Deborah and Angela are fine. Not so keen on Michelle.
