What about Iana (EE-ann-a) as a comprise?

GKite · 26/07/2018 20:47

Blair Violet imo doesn't go Blush
February. Which works so well as my birthday, OHs birthday and first dd birthday all in Feb too Grin
The more I think about it, I need to pitch violet harder. Its still a nice way of remembering ggrandad?

Please don't call your daughter Blair Ian

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/07/2018 20:49

Please don't name your daughter Ian, Violet is lovely.
You may have a DS at a later date, and can call him Blair Ian, fine for a boy !
Jasmine Luna (Minnie).

chicola · 26/07/2018 20:49

Blair Ian sounds like an elderly politician.

A male one.

LoveInTokyo · 26/07/2018 20:50

Apparently Primrose and Iris are both also birth flowers for February. And the birthstone is Amethyst. Or Valentina? (especially if his birthday was on the 14th).

Or Iana would work as a middle name.

strawberrypenguin · 26/07/2018 20:56

Blair is very masculine especially if paired with Ian.

If you are set on using Ian as a middle name I think you need something quite feminine as a first name.

Of your options I'd go for Primrose.

What about

Hebe
Florence
Jennifer
Willow
Harriet

hottub · 26/07/2018 21:01

Ian? No, don't do that to her. Please

buttercup54321 · 26/07/2018 21:08

Blair Ian is absolutely awful for a girl;
Minnie is a mouse or a nickname for someones private parts.
Ian is a boys name. Go with Isla or Ilona or Iona.but please not Ian for a girl!!
Violet is pretty, But NOT with Ian.
I suppose Elaine is similar to Ian
What about grandads mothers name.

GKite · 26/07/2018 21:30

I think I've moved on from having Ian and would like to use Violet instead I think.
Blair Ian is horrible I already know, just saying what my partner liked.
No idea what his mother's name was, I don't suppose anybody would know that now Sad
No more babies for me so would like to use ggrandad some how, think it'll be Violet

LoveInTokyo · 26/07/2018 21:31

OP, you can order a copy of his birth certificate for a tenner and then you’ll know his mother’s name.

kaylanelson · 26/07/2018 21:37

Love Minnie and Luna! and Penelope is also so cute!

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 26/07/2018 21:45

Your partner sounds like he's winding you up OP.

Violet and Luna are lovely.
So is Amelia.

Smile
Cosmoa · 26/07/2018 21:48

I don't think Blair Violet goes either but I wasn't so sure if it mattered as the other names you mentioned didn't really go either and thought it might be a good compromise! Don't really know what to suggest from here...

Wineandchoccy · 26/07/2018 21:49

I know a Nia which honoured her Grandad Ian. Letters are just jumbled around. Pronounced like Mia but with a N.
Violet Nia is lovely

LoveInTokyo · 26/07/2018 22:05

Nia is a good idea.

Picknickers · 26/07/2018 22:30

What about 3 names whose initials spell Ian? For example Iris Annabel Nancy Surname?

Camsie30 · 26/07/2018 22:34

My mum's name is Ina because my grandfather wanted a boy called Ian....

Sarcy · 26/07/2018 22:51

Maybe Phoebe Violet
Lucy Violet
I feel tempted to say parma violet...Grin
But i do think Violet would be nice as a first name

JustlikeDevon · 27/07/2018 01:55

Your partner doesnt like your baby.
Love the idea of violet.

GKite · 27/07/2018 03:21

Don't like phoebe or lucy
It's so hard.
I thought I was having a boy and haven't long found out it's actually a girl so it's taken a while to get my head around, all boys names were picked out. Didn't occur to me that I'd need a girls name Blush I barely like my dds name, girl names are hard for me

OP posts:
Quantumblue · 27/07/2018 03:49

Rhiannon has Ian embedded into it.

toomanyeastereggsurghh · 27/07/2018 07:11

I like Penelope Violet. Penny is such a cute nn.
I agree with pps you would be so cruel to use Ian. Other kids always find out middle names and she would be mercilessly teased.

pennycarbonara · 27/07/2018 08:36

I don't see anything worse about Ian as a middle name for a girl than using a family surname as a middle name, which is commoner (although less than it used to be). I have heard of other girls' with traditionally male middle names for similar reasons. I would consider adding a second middle name for balance but appreciate that with a letter like I in the middle it's quite difficult to avoid spelling potential words with the initials, and another letter to deal with potentially makes it more complicated again .

I wouldn't use Blair as a first name in the UK because (after thinking about a thread today where someone was considering calling a baby Donald) well-known politicians' surnames can endure in signifying that person, in a way that their common first names don't.

Cosmoa · 27/07/2018 08:37

@pennycarbonara she's moved on from Blair Ian! Read the whole thread.
