Can I have honest opinions on June as a given name? My baby is due in November but June is a particularly important month for me and DH (met, married, my birthday, found out DD was a DD). Would it be weird that she's not a summer baby? Is it too old fashioned? I particularly like The Handmaid's Tale reference as it's one of my favourite books. Also, any good middle names or nicknames? I think Juni is cute ☺️

It’s short and simple but not overused. I like it. And juni is cute for a little one. I don’t think the month of birth matters.

I like Juno a lot more.

sonnyboo · 26/07/2018 07:57

*Juno sounds masculine and reminds me of a sumo wrestler

Except that Juno was the Roman Queen of the Gods.*

I think it's the 'o' ending that makes it sound masculine to my ears.

Much prefer June.

My great-aunt was called June. She was born in July! She was lovely. I would only choose as a middle name, myself, but that is me. If you love it go for it, it's a nice name.

Thank you everyone for your replies ☺️ I know this name is not universally liked but I'm surprised at the generally positive feedback, which has made me more confident it it's suitability as a first name! Funnily enough, I actually have a great aunt called June too who's lovely and married a man called Terry 😅.

So middle names, any opinions on these ones we have so far;

June Piper
June Emmeline
June Emma
June Pearl
June Poppy
June Danielle
June Bella?

June is a very summery name to me and fine as a middle name, though very old fashioned. Juno is awful.. What about Catherine June. Bonfire night Catherine wheels being more suited to November. Or Autumn June is good if you want a bit of both seasons,

I love June, it's a granny chic name ready for a comeback. I'm not sure any of your middle names really go with it though.
June Elizabeth
June Ivy
June Marie
Hmm it's hard to think of middle names!

holasoydora · 28/07/2018 08:25

I think a classic middle name for a June. I like June Emma or June Elizabeth. June Catherine is nice too.

Smile at your Great Aunt marrying someone called Terry!

dw23 · 28/07/2018 12:45

Yes, that is the main problem we are having with June, the lack of suitable middle names. Catherine is my cousin's name and she's somewhat estranged so that would be odd, Elizabeth is mine and my SIL's actual name and her and my husband do not get on. Marie is also a cousin (I have a huge family and 9 siblings, the names I like are always taken). Ivy is pretty though. Emma is definitely a contender, my auntie's name who is more of a big sister to me, might be quite a nice touch.

I think June sounds better with a longer middle name (3 syllables plus). Two short names together gives a bit of a hyphenated name feel. Emmeline is nice but the double ne ending is a bit repetitive.

June Emma 😍 I absolutely love it!

My Nanna was June and she was born in March. You have lovely reasons for June. Go for it x

Conjure up an image of an old woman in a nursing home.

daisypond · 29/07/2018 14:25

I think you need something at least two syllables for a middle name and probably not starting with a vowel, or June will run into it. eg, I don't think June Emma works because it can sound like Junemma. Go for something classic.

I love it! I hate Juno though. (Every other child is called Juno at my niece’s school) I think it would be weirder to call a baby born in June, so a November baby is fine!
