Really like the name Poppy but is it really blah and boring/common?

I love Poppy, in 15 years I haven’t taught one and I don’t know one at my dcs school

ShowOfHands · 15/07/2018 10:34

I know a few. Oddly, I know 3 who also have a sister called Holly. I think it's a law maybe.

It's a twee, girly, cutesy name and I think will stand out as of this time along with the army of Ella, Ellie, Ava, Millie type names. It is to this time period as Claire, Sarah and Victoria are to my childhood.

Dilligaf81 · 15/07/2018 10:35

My eldest DD is poppy and is 13. All the way through infants and juniors there wasn't another Poppy (it's not a tiny school 2 classes per year in juniors 3 in infants). Now in secondary there are 3 poppy's including her in her year group of over 700.
You will meet cats and dogs called Poppy but on my Rd there's dogs called Johnny, Izzy, Ben and Rachel!
If you like it use it.

StrawberryCat · 15/07/2018 11:05

I only know one, age 5. Its a pretty name.

bullyingadvice2017 · 15/07/2018 12:15

I know 4. Two 5/6 year olds and two dogs. Definitely a good dog name.

Liz38 · 15/07/2018 12:20

I know a few, one is mine. I had no idea it was popular when I picked it, I just really liked it and still do. DF hated it but it's not up to him, DH and I both liked it so that was that.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 15/07/2018 12:30

I know 4, all under 4.

BounceAndClimb · 15/07/2018 12:34

I know 2 so not overly common. I don't like it personally, makes me think of the link with opium poppies.

AdelaideK · 15/07/2018 12:55

I live in NW England and I know quite a few. One is 14 but all the rest are under 8.

WildCherryBlossom · 15/07/2018 14:25

It is pretty. Each of my children have one or two in their year at school. Not quite as popular around here as Isabella, Alice and Phoebe I don't think.

Smellybluecheese · 15/07/2018 14:28

I know 2, a 3 year old and a 2 year old. And one cat!

TroubledLichen · 15/07/2018 14:28

I personally know 3; one border collie, one cocker spaniel and one jack russell.

daffodildelight · 15/07/2018 14:39

4 in our primary school so I would say common.

flapjackfairy · 15/07/2018 14:42

I love it but i only know dogs with the name !

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/07/2018 15:04

DD 19 went to school with a Poppy
That's the only one I've Personally came across.
However I've met a lot of dogs and a cat called Poppy.
It's still a lovely name and one I'd definitely
consider.

insancerre · 15/07/2018 15:07

I don't know any
I've worked with children for 25 years and never come across one

ILoveMyMonkey · 15/07/2018 15:09

Teaching 10 years and never come across a poppy.

Lovely name.

daisypond · 15/07/2018 18:48

I like it. I know two in their early 20s.

LostwithSawyer · 15/07/2018 22:47

Not keen at all.
I wouldn't want to be a 30 yr old Poppy.
Cute on a baby but not on an adult.

SmellyNelly2018 · 15/07/2018 22:55

I know three Poppy’s all three are spoilt brats demanding and attention seeking.

starlight2017 · 15/07/2018 22:56

I know 2 girls and a dog!

justforthisnow · 15/07/2018 23:01

Plant based names just don't stand the tests, Poppy is a no here,

Tinywhale · 15/07/2018 23:06

1 dog, 1 cat, 1 adult and 1 child. Suited the adult much less well than the others.

MikeUniformMike · 16/07/2018 14:41

I know an adult Poppy and it works for her.
