Conpletly stuck on names!

So i am due to have second DD2 by c section next week (if not before depending on appointment tomorrow!) We are so stuck for names. We wrote a list but then we decided we didn't like any of them because people will shorten them. Any suggestions? I want something that isn't that common but not unheard of and cute.

On our list was...
Willa
Aubree
Violet
Addy/adaline
Paisley
Harper
Darcie

I like Paisley

daisypond · 10/07/2018 19:36

The only one I like on your list is Willa - mainly because of the great author Willa Cather. I really like it. Adeline is OK, but not my taste.

Aubree - seems odd to me. Aubrey is a male name, though seems to be being use for girls now as well. Is Aubree a female equivalent?
Violet - I know it's popular on here, but a violet is a tiny creeping plant, not something to call your daughter.
Addy/adaline - see Adeline, above.
Paisley - is a town in Scotland.
Harper - make you look like a fan of the Beckhams. Will date.
Darcie - downmarket, however you spell it, despite Darcey Bussell.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 10/07/2018 20:38

Love Adeline (Addie).

SamanthaH92 · 10/07/2018 22:01

@daisypond yes i did think aubrey was originally a boys name not unisex or female. Theres lots of different spellings for the same names. Thanks ladys I'm not sure which to chose!

Raines100 · 11/07/2018 09:43

Love Adaline. Don't like any of the others.

Blondemother · 14/07/2018 09:10

I like Violet and Adeline.
I wouldn’t worry too much about shortenings - my husband and his sister were both given ‘names you can’t shorten’ because MIL didn’t want that to happen. People found a way!

RavenWings · 14/07/2018 11:01

Willa - no way. Willow is nice
Aubree - again, no. Audrey?
Violet - fine
Addy/adaline - Adaline is lovely. Addy by itself is not. I prefer Adalind to Adaline though.
Paisley - this is nice
Harper - immediately thought of Victoria Beckham
Darcie - prefer the Darcey spelling but I like it

toomanyeastereggsurghh · 14/07/2018 11:28

Harper is too Beckham for me.
Much prefer Willow to Willa.
Violet is pretty but agree Vi and V as shortened names are horrible.
Really don’t like Paisley. Darcie is ok but relatively popular - I know at least 3.

Adeline (prefer with e although in the film “age of adaline” it’s spelt with an a) is definitely my favourite, such a classic sounding name and Addie is a cute shortened name.

LittleBlueRidingBoot · 14/07/2018 18:02

Romila

SamanthaH92 · 14/07/2018 18:31

Yes i do agree harper is very much linked to the beckhams and the more i think about it the more i dislike it. How long do you have to do the birth certificate? I have a feeling she will be nameless for a while x

Violet

Blondemother · 14/07/2018 19:52

I think it’s 6 weeks if you’re in the UK - plenty of time to try a few names and see which suits her.

hurrythefuckupgeorge · 14/07/2018 19:56

I really like Willa, what about Wallis as an alternative?

MrsMrsMrsMrs · 14/07/2018 20:06

Willa is cute
Addison nn Addie
Cleo
Alba
Violet is lovely and doesn't sent necessarily get shortened
Elise
There are quite a few Darcys and Darcies around

littlebillie · 14/07/2018 22:46

Willa is lovely

Sarahgrace123 · 15/07/2018 06:27

I like all of those names but since you liked addie have you thought of Adalie? I grew up with a girl down the street with that name and I pure envied it! But they are all beutiful!

ABCFamily · 15/07/2018 07:43

I like Willa, Harper, and Violet. I know a couple of baby/toddler Violets, but I haven't met a Harper, even though it's more popular.

Some suggestions you might like:
Adele
Lacey
Marlowe
Odette
Paige
Piper
Quinn
Tegan

SamanthaH92 · 15/07/2018 18:06

I'm actually quite shocked at how many people like Willa. Everyone i have asked for opinions on the name have said its awful and not to dare call her that. Which is sort of one of the main reasons i didn't want to use it but now I'm not so sure whether i defiently bin it off. Thanks ladies for your replies and suggestions.
