Do these sound totally ridiculous?

Too hot and uncomfortable to sleep so thinking about our baby names again.

Just gone on maternity leave, due our second daughter in a few weeks and struggling with names. We’ve got a few we like so not stuck on options, just can’t decide which to go for.
One of the ones we like is Edith but we’ll mostly call her Edie. Thing is, we’ve already got a Phoebe! Does Phoebe and Edie sound totally ridiculous?

Doesn’t sound ridiculous but old lady names are in fashion so you may ended up with one of many.

myrtleWilson · 07/07/2018 03:07

They are both lovely names but they do sound a bit alike... How about Meredith...it is a lovely name!

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 07/07/2018 03:37

What other names are on your list OP?

Stringofpearls · 07/07/2018 04:19

I love the name Edith, but I don't think it goes well with Phoebe. How about Mabel or Sylvie? Are there any others that you like?

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 07/07/2018 07:36

Phoebe and Elsie
Phoebe & Olive
Phoebe & Ava
Phoebe & Elizabeth
Phoebe & Grace
Phoebe & Tula
Phoebe & Lilly
Phoebe & Rachel Grin

I think they sound fine together

JessyJames · 07/07/2018 07:46

I have a friend with a Phoebe and an Edith. Works well for her!

Sessy19 · 07/07/2018 10:11

Nah...you’re fine!! Stick with it.

I’m not a fan of Phoebe for personal reasons! But Edith (and Edie nn) are cool AF!

TatianaLarina · 07/07/2018 10:54

It does sound a bit odd.

Imogen
Aurora
Luna
Lyra
Violet

KarmaStar · 07/07/2018 10:59

Mary?

FoofFighter · 07/07/2018 13:27

It's lovely OP ☺️

Ellafruit1 · 07/07/2018 13:31

Love Phoebe and Edith!

I don’t think names have to go together, they will be individuals and only together for such a short part of their lives. Unless you love to look showy in your Christmas cards?!

piggie88 · 07/07/2018 14:06

Thanks for all your responses. Glad that most of you think they sound okay together, I’ve asked my family and friends and they’ve mostly said they sound fine but wasn’t sure if they were being honest 😂.
We also like Eliza, Alice, Nancy, Imogen and Erin and my husband really likes Charlotte, which I do like but just not as much as the others.
We like Eleanor and Elodie too but not keen on her being called Ella/Ellie.
I like Mary too Karma but no one else likes it!

You like a lot of other lovely names OP so I would give Edith a miss.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 07/07/2018 16:10

❤️ Nancy.
Phoebe and Nancy.

haribosmarties · 07/07/2018 16:13

Phoebe and Edith are lovely names and dont sound too similar. I think its okay if the nickname sounds similar as its not the full name. Also will Phoebe not get shortened to Phee or Phebes? So neither name nor nicknames sound like each other.. it would just be if you called one by their fullname and the other by a shortened name.

I also like Elodie out of the girls names you like, think it sounds lovely with Phoebe.

VioletCharlotte · 07/07/2018 16:17

I like Edith but it is a bit similar to Phoebe. I think Phoebe and Alice sound lovely together.

janie2 · 07/07/2018 16:28

I agree with you Violet Phoebe and Alice sound lovely together. I like Edith too though, your list is a lovely list!

DramaAlpaca · 07/07/2018 16:29

Sorry, I do think they are too similar.

Any of the others on your list would be perfect with Phoebe.

TatianaLarina · 07/07/2018 18:27

Of your list I think Nancy and Imogen are by far the nicest and go the best with Phoebe.

Alice more mainstream.

SheldonandPenny · 07/07/2018 19:44

When you call Edie or Phoebe they might both come and get irritated. When they are teens they may use this as an excuse to ignore anything you day....I'd give Edie a miss.

From your others the best are:

Alice, popular in a good way
Erin uncommon, good choice
Mary - seems uncommon now

diedyediedye · 07/07/2018 19:47

I like Erin.

Crunchymum · 07/07/2018 20:18

We have an Edith. And yes she is mainly an Edie.

Edie and Phoebe do sound quite similar I'm afraid.

ShowOfHands · 07/07/2018 20:25

Erin and Nancy are both beautiful.

I love Edith but not Edie.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 07/07/2018 20:46

I think they're too similar.

I like Eliza & Imogen from.your list.
