Hi, I’m expecting DC3 in the next 2 or 3 weeks; we don’t know the sex.

I would be really interested to hear thoughts on both my boy and girl shortlists. DH likes all of these too (although is less keen on Delilah and Samuel) but neither of us have a clear favourite.

Please can you help by picking your favourites?

Delilah
Romilly
Imogen
Diana
Hero
Mina
Matilda

Vincent
Gabriel
Samuel

TIA!

Any more thoughts on Gabriel? It is my husband’s favourite of the three boy names.

Samuel I like a lot and it has proved really popular on here so far. Vincent is probably my favourite - there’s just something deliciously quirky about it, although I appreciate it’s quite a marmite choice!

Delilah, because of Regina Spektor's Samson:
You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first, I loved you first
Beneath the stars came fallin' on our heads
But they're just old light, they're just old light
Your hair was long when we first met etc

And Samuel

Delilah: nice.
Romilly: really nice.
Imogen: love it!
Diana: rather nice but Di isn't a nice nn.
Hero: great middle name.
Mina: boring.
Matilda: lovely but very popular.

Imogen Hero would be fab imo.

Vincent: great name.
Gabriel: very nice.
Samuel: I really dislike it.

Imogen and Gabriel are my faves and go with the siblings.

Delilah - becoming increasingly popular nicknames DeDe and Lilah are sweet
Romilly - you could have the nicknames Romy and Mimmie if you wanted a little more unusual but not un heard of...
Imogen - popular but classic lovely name with good literary use.
Diana - lovely name with fascinating meaning and history.
Hero - if you gor for Honora / or Hermione you could have this as a nickname other than that it's a very strong name to live up to
Mina seems short for something like Wilhelmina
Matilda my DD name so obviously the winner ♥ 🥇 ♥. Good history, strong meaning and lovely literary connotations.

Vincent - great name sweet nickname Vinnie and think of the painting you could decorate his nursery with...
Gabriel - Lovely Biblical name
Samuel - again biblical with lovely meaning

Hero or Matilda

Vincent or Gabriel

We considered Hero for DD but decided it was too much to live up to, plus the Shakespeare and mythological figures are both a bit wet. Still love it though.

Romilly and Samuel

ButterflyOfFreedom · 02/07/2018 16:52

Imogen or Gabriel

Diana is lovely, also Helena.

From your list I like Delilah best.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 02/07/2018 16:56

Romilly and Gabriel

blinkineckmum · 02/07/2018 18:21

I like Diana, Matilda and Samuel.

dancingunicorns123 · 02/07/2018 20:09

Delilah from the girls list, I don't really like any from your boys list sorry x

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 02/07/2018 20:45

I like all your boys' names. Samuel is my favourite.

The only girls' name I like from your list is Matilda. Imogen and Romilly are very faddy and of-the-moment. Delilah has too many connotations - how about Dalia instead? Diana likewise re the connotations, but Artemis is great and refers to the same goddess. (Oh, just seen no A names - it would be a bit much!). I should really like Hero, it being Shakespearean and all, but I can't get with it. How about Miranda or Paulina?
