Hiya All,
I am a soon to be single mum as my partner left soon after I told him I pregnant.
My due date is the 2nd of July with a girl and I have no names- I like names that not many people use.
I do have some names i like
Maisie
Lily
Autumn
Grace
Christina
Evie
Maddy

I personally prefer names that are only names of people, and not things, so I don't like Autumn (somehow, even more so if not being born in the Autumn).
The same applies (to a lesser degree) to Lily and Grace.

Lily has been quite popular here over recent years too.

With Christina, be prepared for it to be shortened... Chris, Chrissie, or Tina. I like all of those but it might help rule it in or out if you like or don't like those shortenings.
I think of Maddy as being a shortening, not a name on its own.

So I'd go with Maisie myself.

MrsAJG · 29/06/2018 15:54

I really like Autumn as a first name and would consider putting it with Grace or Lily as a middle name. Autumn Grace and Autumn Lily are both really nice, but as PP said might be more appropriate for a baby actually being born in the Autumn

Not so sure on the others, Evie is very nice and was one of my favourites but has become so common now, for that reason I think I would avoid it.

TatianaLarina · 29/06/2018 16:05

Autumn for a summer baby? Lily, Grace and Evie are two a penny.

Maddy is McCann, although Madeleine or Magadalena would be ok.

Prefer Christa or Christabel to Christina.

YerAuntFanny · 29/06/2018 16:11

Christina and Autumn are the only ones that aren't popular in my area.

Names we discussed;
Harriet
Elena
Cara
Eliza
Carys
Cassie/Cassandra
Erin
Erica
Becca
Bethany
Amber

Hi OP, Congratulations on your pregnancy. I'm sorry your ex was an arse. I hope you're doing OK, and wishing you and your baby a lovely family life together. Don

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 29/06/2018 16:22

Oops! Posted too soon. I'm not suggesting you call her Don Grin

SoyDora · 29/06/2018 16:26

Lily, Maisie, Grace, Evie and Maddy are very popular where I am. Ten a penny.
So I’d go with Christina Smile

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 29/06/2018 16:31

Don't forget to consider her last name. Personally I would give her your's, rather than saddling her with the name of your ex who walked away. That way you can share a name from the start, and if it's on her birth certificate it's easier for school, passport etc. It might seem a long way off, but it could save you a lot of bother.

I'd like to suggest Summer. A lovely, positive name, and a reminder of the glorious weather we're having when she's coming into the world. And middle name Grace. You're going to need a lot of that - but she'll be worth it, I promise.

Good luck Flowers

Maddy is McCann, although Madeleine or Magadalena would be ok

Really? I thought her parents only used Madeleine.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 29/06/2018 17:07

Aurora nn Rory?

TatianaLarina · 29/06/2018 17:20

It’s what the media called her that’s the point.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 29/06/2018 17:25

Anybody that wouldn't choose Madeleine or Maddy because of Madeleine McCann are quite frankly dim.

TatianaLarina · 29/06/2018 18:11

Dim or have a different opinion to you? I never liked the name Maddy, I like it even less now. The name would always bring the case and the photos to my mind.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 29/06/2018 18:14

The name belongs to a little girl that is missing not a notorious monster.

TatianaLarina · 29/06/2018 18:18

It was a traumatic case. Just accept someone on the internet has a different opinion.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 29/06/2018 18:20

Ditto.

daisypond · 29/06/2018 19:24

I like Grace, Christina, Lily and Madeleine (not Maddy). I find these names quite classy and elegant. Grace and Lily have been popular for a while, but so what? Christina is unusual these days. It's nice.
I don't like Evie, Autumn or Maisie - though they're fine, just not my taste. I find them a bit twee/cutesy.

Skyejuly · 29/06/2018 19:25

Grace!

TatianaLarina · 29/06/2018 20:59

I’ve expressed no issue with you having a different view. Nor have I namecalled you on the basis of it.

MiniAlphaBravo · 29/06/2018 21:04

Great you were the one who called people dim. I personally wouldn’t use that name because it brings to mind a tragic case. That doesn’t make me dim thanks.

Op I think Christina is really nice and not well used. Your other names are a bit more popular, though I do like Lily and Grace as I find them more elegant than say Evie. Autumn seems wrong for a summer baby but it is a pretty name. Go for Christina!

And I would echo what a pp says, please don’t give your baby the surname of your horrible ex. Best of lunck to you.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 29/06/2018 21:22

There are many children that have names associated with a tragic case.

Do we boycott all of them then?

MiniAlphaBravo · 29/06/2018 21:55

No. Only the ones we choose to. For me, Madeleine is one. I hadn’t heard the name until I heard about the case. So for example I wouldn’t exclude holly or Jessica after the tragic murders of those poor little girls because i had other associations for those names, but not for Madeleine.
