What are your thoughts on Wallace and Horace for a boy (not as siblings)

They are both growing on me

I love Horace. Wallace is gorgeous but it's a girls name, is it not

HeyDolly · 27/06/2018 12:50

I think Horace is awful but I like Wallace. I think it’s a male name? The only Wallace that I personally know is Male and there’s also Wallace from Wallace & Gromit Grin. Wallis might be the female version but I’m basing that solely on Wallis Simpson.

piggie88 · 27/06/2018 12:59

I like Horace, never considered Wallace but I like that too.

JessambardKingdomBrunel · 27/06/2018 13:00

Horace - awful.

Wallace - I hear Wallis, girls' name

Don't do that to your child.

EatMyGoal · 27/06/2018 13:03

Wallace will be shortened to Wally

IVflytrap · 27/06/2018 13:03

Not a fan of either ot them, sorry. Horatio is mildly better, in my opinion.

Wallace is definitely a boy's name. Maybe pp is thinking of Wallis Simpson. Her first name was actually Bessie, Wallis was one of her dad's surnames.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 27/06/2018 13:10

Maybe like Reggie and Stanley these names will get more popular again.

MollyHuaCha · 27/06/2018 13:17

Not keen on Horace. The Hor brings to mind words such as horrid, horrible, horror.

Sorry. Shock

MikeUniformMike · 27/06/2018 13:21

Horatio is great, Horace isn't.
Wallace will be mistaken for Wallis, and will be nn Wally.
How about Norman or Gerald?

RavenWings · 27/06/2018 14:55

Horace is awful. Really bad. It is definitely a male name, though.
Wallace slightly better but still bad.

margaritasbythesea · 27/06/2018 14:57

I am not keen.

What about Howard? Howie is a cute nn IMO.

Sophronia · 27/06/2018 15:16

Horatio is better than Horace.

Willow2017 · 27/06/2018 15:31

Jmho but both are awful.

kaytee87 · 27/06/2018 15:51

Horrible

Joeybee · 28/06/2018 05:30

I think Wallace is fine, I'm surprised it isn't gaining popularity actually, what with the revival of Albert, Wilfred and stuff like that.. Horace though is a little...clumsy, a little like Barney or something, i'd struggle to take a Horace seriously.

Homebird8 · 28/06/2018 06:15

I think I quite like Wallace and the obvious shortening of Wally wouldn’t worry me as it was 30years ago that was used colloquially and you don’t hear it today (unless you have unkind relations).

I’d steer away from Horace though for personal reasons. My DM had an imaginary perfect child called ‘Little Horace’. He couldn’t put a foot wrong, was perpetually six, and was used to make DSis and I feel inferior. Probably nothing wrong with the name but not for me.

If you’re after other similar names, what about Oswald?
