What do we think? I think it's classic and beautiful, my friend thinks it's boring and 'old', DP likes it. We would use it regardless of what my friend thinks but wondered what the general consensus was!

Quite a few songs about her, not just Blondie.

It was on our shortlist but I decided it was too religious.

We were thinking of this name if ds had been DD! I think it is beautiful, classic but also quite unusual these days what with all the Mias and Myas you get now. I normally go for more unusual names so this is quite traditional for me. Dp's only issue was that I would constantly be singing "Maria, I just met a girl named Mariaaaaa!" all the time I love that there are lots of songs with the name Maria in to serenade her with!

A unique name that doesn't raise eyebrows and is easy to pronounce.

I've met people with three different ways of pronouncing Maria:

Ma-ree-a (this seems to be the modern default version)
Ma-rye-a
Marr-ree-a

I think you might get Mahr-ya too. Ma-rye-a is the English pronunciation but is seldom used now. Other than in Twelfth Night and Black Maria.

It's a classic. I know one Maria in England and it suits her. I'm a bit Maria'd out though as I know about 100 Marias, but I live in South America
